Everybody else has said it all, but if I don't write something I won't get notifications as the portrait unfolds!  And I don't want to miss out. So: GO SHARON! My foot is tapping with impatience for the next installment.

You’re adorable, Linley!!
Here’s Mr Smith with the background color. I first put down a layer of French ultramarine, but it was too bright. So I mixed in indigo to the blue and put that down as a 2nd layer - and voila!!
Cheers,
Sharon

That background looks like leather... the sort that is on top of Roll-top desks. Beautiful. :painting:

Classy background, Sharon! I share Linley’s impatience, too. Looking forward to the painting’s progress...

Sharon:  The background looks good.  My favorite dark blue background in watercolor is Ultramarine blue and Paynes grey.

Yes really, Val! I'm working on some other paintings for a show I have on Nov 9th...hope to post one tomorrow that I've almost completed. I was missing PV so much - we had a rental cancellation this week in our condo so I took advantage of a free frequent flier ticket to pop down here. It's beautiful weather - the perfect place to paint! And I'll be all primed to work on Gerald when I return!
Cheers,
Sharon
