So here’s part 2 of my Mark Hopkins commission. George D Smith is the man who actually built the hotel. So they want a portrait of him, too for the hotel museum. Yes, another black and white photo - ugh!! They’ve said he can be more colorful than the first portrait.

So - any thoughts on background, suit and tie colors? I’m thinkng a cobalt or cerelean Blue for the background, a light gray suit and either a blue or red bow tie. Would love some of your ideas!!
Cheers,
Sharon

My first thought was a blue background, but ultramarine, grey suit with navy tie....just my thoughts....good luck but I know you will ace this one.

I’m thinking now the ultramarine background might be best. So you’re correct, Mary Lou! A bolder color to compliment the green of the other one. And a navy tie with yellow spots and stripes

Sharon

Thanks Kathy. I bought the 300lb paper today and sketched him. Tomorrow I’ll mask and will do the background this weekend. The hotel agreed about the ultramarine background (good call, Mary Lou!), the light gray suit and the navy and yellow tie. Just as before, I’ll take this one step at a time. Probably will do the clothing next, than the eyes and the face for last.
Cheers,
Sharon

Blue suit always go, but research what blue was in fashion in the years this photo was done.

I will PM you the reason I am saying that.
