Everybody else has said it all, but if I don't write something I won't get notifications as the portrait unfolds!  And I don't want to miss out. So: GO SHARON! My foot is tapping with impatience for the next installment.

You’re adorable, Linley!!
Here’s Mr Smith with the background color. I first put down a layer of French ultramarine, but it was too bright. So I mixed in indigo to the blue and put that down as a 2nd layer - and voila!!
Cheers,
Sharon

That background looks like leather... the sort that is on top of Roll-top desks. Beautiful. :painting:

Classy background, Sharon! I share Linley’s impatience, too. Looking forward to the painting’s progress...

Sharon:  The background looks good.  My favorite dark blue background in watercolor is Ultramarine blue and Paynes grey.

Yes really, Val! I'm working on some other paintings for a show I have on Nov 9th...hope to post one tomorrow that I've almost completed. I was missing PV so much - we had a rental cancellation this week in our condo so I took advantage of a free frequent flier ticket to pop down here. It's beautiful weather - the perfect place to paint! And I'll be all primed to work on Gerald when I return!
Cheers,
Sharon

Been working on Mr Smith from below the neck. Wanted you to see the latest. Next step is the face. Any suggestions on improving his outfit?!?

Love the bow tie.  You can do this, Sharon.  It'll be great.

Thanks, Mea. Having some family issues now so it’s been hard to concentrate on painting. Felt good to get back to this.
Cheers,
Sharon
