Louisa, I very seldom get angry or cross, and this is NOT one of those occasions  :) Sometimes I have to give one of these gentle  ;) wake-up calls.
Whatever I do or say is always for the benefit of the artist. O0

Oh Louisa, if your painting is this good now, I can't wait to see if after the few tweaks! And I ALWAYS hear Dennis' voice in my head saying "it's a painting, not a photo" when I don't think it looks like the photo exactly.  Really helps me to stay focused on what I'm doing - creating art!! Anyway, your client is going to LOVE this!
Cheers,
Sharon

My immediate reaction to the painting was WWOOOOOWWWW! :yippee: :yippee: :yippee: :yippee:  The only suggestion I can make is: Are you allowed enough artistic licence to give the fish a slightly fishier shape? At the moment it just looks like an amorphous lump, both in the photo and the painting. But it's probably not that important, given the overall impact of the picture.

Louisa, I can attest to Dennis' thoughtfulness and welfare for us personally, when he tells us not to bring ourselves down, for he had to give me a good talking to as well and it was for my own good which I really appreciated immensely. I lacked confidence in my endeavours and never thought that I was good enough and his 'talking to' was a wake up call which I must say has benefited me as it will you and I will always be grateful to him for it. The problem is, I don't think you realise just how good an artist you are but believe me, you are excellent.

Louisa I never critique paintings I leave that to the experts like Dennis and Mea and the others. When I saw this when the page opened up my Jaw dropped open I swear!! I thought at first you were showing the reference photo!!! Then I realized it was your painting. I saw total beauty!! No flaws. I was not looking for flaws. I was taking in the picture as a whole first then focusing on the bird. I totally love it!!! The colors are so wonderful. and the movement of the bird is great! I think this is one of your best paintings to date. Or at least that I like as a spectator. I really admire your work.

Louisa,
If I haven't seen the photo, I would say perfect.  The commisionner is not likely to expect a perfect reproduction (she/he could simply blow up the photo and frame it) but your interpretation... and it is wonderful.

Dennis is right, you should never put your errors or faults forward... 95% of people won't see them anyway.  Here at PB we are critical because we aim at improving all the time, and members will help you make it better... in this safe and great environment.  If noone found a fault, you may be off in your self critic.

Dennis has a point, don't do that.  I got my feathers ruffed because I would list of the flaws in my paintings... and you know what?  That was one of the top lessons I took from Dennis, along with all those tips on how to paint of course.

If you look at all the comments you get on your paintings... you should notice that you are a great artist.  I was surprised this was your first commision.  I think you don't, or don't know how to, to market yourself.

And... great people understand, they don't get cross easily.
Cheers, Annie

I really don't know what to say...... Dennis this was a wake up call that I never will forget and all the other precious PB members with the encouraging and wonderful comments, I read them all twice and feel ashamed that I didn't believe in myself. Thank you is all I can say.
Dennis I tweaked the beak and the chest, but I think it is the light on my camera that's not properly set (and I don't know how to fix it) that makes everything on the painting lighter. And thanks again for the wake up call.
