This one was a struggle for me.
I had to include the whole body because if I made the head any bigger the ears would have been left off the canvas. Please let me know your thoughts. Thank you.

Wonderful!  I love the detail you brought out in his nose, which is missing from the photo.

Another beauty!  You are so good at this.

I studied the two carefully and the only change I would make would be to lessen the intensity of the dark line at the bottom of the face, especially as it goes up his left side.

I love this one! My poor baby is going to leave us real soon from Cancer. I don't know what I'm going to do without her. Perhaps I can commission you EmmaLee  to do one of your fabulous paintings and I won't feel so lonely without her.

Mysti -Thank you! This photo was very difficult for me to work with.
Mea - I will make that correction to the mouth line. Thank you so much!
Robynann - I'm so sorry to hear about your dog. I know how hard it can be to loose a beloved pet. I'm flattered that you would want one of my paintings. I'd be happy to look at a picture, just shoot me a message if you'd like. I also think that you could do a wonderful pet portrait if you wanted to. Your paintings have been getting very good!
Thank you Dennis and John!

A great painting as usual Emma Lee .  A small suggestion from me would be to bring the brown fur colour around the chest on our right side a little.

I always love your paintings. Excellent eyes and face.
My viewing of this one is that his ear on the right side of the painting is a bit too big.
Plus the colour of his fur is a bit too pale or is it just the lighting in the photo, as in the photo he has a more orange /brown colour.
Also he is darker under his nose. He also needs shading on the leg on the right side of the paintingand a bit more dark patches on his chest.

Than you for your comments Teresa. I should have mentioned earlier that I intentionally lightened the painting much more than the reference. This client sent me two photos of this dog, one was nice lighting but a terrible angle and the one above (bad lighting). The dog is much more blonde and less orange than the above image shows. So I tried to use the colors from one photo and the angle of the other. The dog is pretty much all in shadow in the photo above. I'm not very happy with the outcome but it was the best I could do. I'll take a better look at that ear and see if it's off in proportion and I'll also see about adding a bit more shading to the chest and legs. Thank you!
I feel like I'm a good artist but when I get poor reference photos I feel like I'm being set up to fail. My favorite paintings are all from the best reference photos. I have a really hard time communicating what I need to clients.

I find this excellent, Emma Lee!  Maybe some small corrections like other PBs have mentioned but I find this painting excellent the way it is! You've done a great rendition inspite of a poor quality photo.

EmmaLee - your dog portraits are so darn good! I love Gunnar! And I know what you mean about a bad reference photo. Thank goodness there's artistic license!
Cheers,
Sharon
