Here is my latest pet portrait, Riley. I really wanted to have some fun and do a colored background for a change, but the client asked for a black background like she has seen on my other paintings. So I gave it a try and this was the result. I actually like the black background more than I thought I would. Please let me know what you think and I how I can improve this one. Thank you!!

Riley is so precious, EmmaLee.

You are doing so well with pet portraits.  This one is lovely, but I feel it needs a few more white hairs, especially on the left side of the picture.

I am certain it will be a hit.

Brilliant Emma Lee! I can see a couple of minor tweaks which could be done, but I think I'd see what Riley's owner thinks first.  O0

Thank you Mysti and Dennis!
Mea - Thank you. More white hairs on the top of the head or the muzzle? Or both? I thought that maybe I should add more white to the head but I was worried that what I see on the photo might be a lot of reflected light and not all white hair. I'll look at the other photos the client sent and see if Riley is whiter than my painting.
Thank you Teresa.  I'm so happy you like it.
Val - Thank you. I see little adjustments to be made too.  The nostrils for example seem off, but I posted anyway wondering if y'all would see the little imperfections too. Sometimes I think I spend too much time making changes no one else will see.
The town I live in was recently hit with a massive flood. It's hard to find any business that is open. We were very fortunate that we didn't have any damage to our property but some of my friends and family weren't so lucky. We have had family staying with us during this storm and flood. It's been hard to find time for much other than cleaning. The client wants this painting framed and ready by September 21st, so I hurried and got it done. Now I'm left wondering when the frame shop will reopen! haha  :crazy2:

Glad you are safe.  :1hug:

What I see that could be improved is some white added above his right eye so it comes around a bit more like the photo.
The dark area over the left side of his nose could be made a little darker.

I wouldn't worry about the nostril, it is quite minute. The rest is mainly fiddly stuff with tiny touches of white that I wouldn't be concerned about.

Riley is really gorgeous.

So happy to hear you are safe from the storm and even able to provide shelter for others.  The devastation around Houston is incredible.  I cry every time I watch the news.

You may be right about the reflected light.

Do hope your framer is still operational.  Client will love this.

Thank you Val and Mea.
Val-- when I read your last post I had my paint brush in hand signing my name on the painting, so I went ahead and made those couple of small changes. I'm glad I did. Thanks again!
