I painted this in honor of my Grandmother who had to flee Kiev, Russia in the early 1900's.  I find what's going on in today's world particularly troubling since I am the granddaughter of a refugee. The painting is 18x24. I would love to hear any comments or critiques.

You never seem short of inspirational subjects. Like the worried and stressed expressions and postures. Their elaborate costumes look most unsuitable for the weather. Well done.

Robyn Ann,
I love ❤️ your painting.  I have someone who works for me who came to the US from Ukraine 25 years ago and he has told me some of what it was like there.  Your grandmother must have been an amazing woman.  How wonderful to honor her so.

I showed him your picture and he really liked it.  He said that makes you a 2nd generation.  It reminded him of a painting by Alphonse Mucha, which also has a lot of emotion and meaning to it.  Here is the blurb about it from the Mucha Foundation.

Woman in the Wilderness (1923)
Also known as Star and Siberia, this painting could be seen to express Mucha's love for Russia and her people.
As a young man, Mucha was strongly influenced by Pan-Slavism and regarded Tsarist Russia as an epitom of Slavic values.
Produced in 1923, this painting may have been Mucha's response to the terrible sufferings endured by the Russian people after the Bolshevik Revolution, which culminated in the Great Famine of 1921. In this painting, a Russian peasant woman, symbolising the suffering of the nation, sits quietly with a gesture of acceptance of her inevitable fate. However, the star shining above her indicates hope and spiritual salvation.
