This is my second attempt at doing the basilica dome.

(This version  was posted AFTER the first one went down with the gallery glitch, so it incorporates all the suggestions made in the comments below)

I was able to salvage the first version by cropping it down to a 5 x 7" and it will look fine.

But, this second one is the one I want for my sister's office in Rome, so please help me make it better.  I do plan to make the branches of the fir tree thicker; I think that will help.   What else does it need?

Mea, your dome looks wonderful. I think making the fur trees fuller is a good idea. Your sister is going to love having this in her office.

This is wonderful Mea.  I agree to make the fir trees a bit fuller, but other than that ....your sister will love this!! :yippee:

Its lovely Mea, you definitely have your own style and I recognize your work straight away. How about rubbing out a wee  highlight off the round part of the roofs for some added definition and extra roundness? Either that or a tad of shadow on the shadow side of the roof... Not necessary but i think would help...only cos you asked, what else  ;)

Thanks, Trev.  It'll be easier to darken the shadow as I have already lost the white of the paper.

Thanks, Neil.  I am feeling much better about this version than the last.

Thanks, Mary Lou and EmmaLee, yes, I will work on those fir trees.

Thanks, Dennis, always love to see those clapping hands from you.

I will finish and repost today.

no chance of just gently wetting the highlight area and rubbing the highlight off with a damp brush and then dabbing with a tissue?

Oh Mea - look what practice has done - it's wonderful! Can't wait to see it with the fuller trees. And trying to figure out the light source - darkening shadows will really make it pop.

Why does your sister have an office in Rome?
Cheers,
Sharon

I just saw your original pen and ink version and now know why your sister is in Rome. Mazel tov to her!! What an incredible opportunity and such an honor. I sure hope you'll have a chance to visit her someday. I know a painting from you will make her feel your love and support. And great job on all of the details!
Cheers,
Sharon

Thanks, Sharon.  Her order of nuns elected her as the Superior General.  She will head an organization with nuns in 14 countries on 4 continents so will live in Rome for the next 6 years! And she's 68 years old!  (We have healthy genes in our family).   I am so proud of her.

My word, that is so good". So congratulations and with the tweaks suggested by the other members, your sister will have a gorgeous painting in her office which she will be so proud of because her biological sister painted it. I am so proud of you.
