Hi All,

I hope you are all well!  :heeha:

After doing most of the lessons in the portrait course (I must still do the final one of the entire face) I thought I would try a portrait by applying what ive learnt but also trying to allow a sense of my own style to come through. This one is of a friend of mine. I allowed myself and the paints the freedom to do what we wanted without worrying to much about making mistakes. I also wanted to try achieve good contrasts and try get the painting to burst with sunshine and warmth. I also experimented with warm and cools as well as complimentary colours to really get the colours to pop. I like it and think it works but my mom hates this style she says it looks too splotchy for her  :-\ which I do understand. What do you think? Too loose and and crazy? Is it convincing to you? I appreciate your input...

:thankyou: and have a marvelous day!

Trev

Trevor, this looks outstanding to me! It is full of light and sunshine, so you accomplished your goal. I'm sorry to hear that your Mom doesn't like this loose style, but I guess it's not for everyone. But at least now you know what style NOT to use for any painting you do for her.

:heeha: I love it.  O0   I think perhaps the glasses might have been a bit over the top for your mum? Pretty wild!  ;D

I may be biased, but I love the loose style of painting. You certainly have captured the light, fun and love of life with this painting. Excellent.
Cheers, Val

Trev,

This looks like a painting one might find in a trendy gallery.  It's bold and bright.  The oversize sunglasses give it a charicature look which works well in this painting.  Fabulous smile.  Love the colorful splotchy background.

Thumbs up, Trev.  I love it.  Proud of you for challenging yourself!

:heeha: Hi Trev, Yes it is definitely loose and crazy and I LOVE it  :smitten:  As I am learning more about art, I want to let go a bit once in a while and just let the creativity flow as you did. You did this so well and it radiates lightness and freedom. Well done, Trev. Well done.  :yippee:

    Trev, this is so very well done and while it may not be to everyone's taste as Steve said, it is still jolly good. Wonderful that you stretched yourself and gave it a go.  Art should be fun and it looks like you really achieved that.

Trev, your bold use of color on both of these is marvelous! The bottom line, I think, is that YOU are the one who must be pleased with your work and your own unique style. I think they are great!
