:thankyou: EVERYONE for your encouraging remarks! I was so surprised that I could 'save' this little painting!  A positive thing about doing mini paintings is that while they do take some thought, they can be done in a lot less time than a full blown composition.  For me it gives me a rest from painting anything serious while letting me practice something I would use in a larger painting later on.

VAL, are you working on your water lily?   :) ~Liz

just finishing up my pastel treefrog... lilies are up next. I think I have come up with a new idea to try the lilies in w/c.  I think I'm going to try a small version and see how it works. Putting all the other stuff on hold and out of site so I can focus on the lilies.
Cheers, Val

Trying a 'looser' style of painting; still eating cherries since they're in season; bought some Bing and will try painting Nolan's red cherries next I guess.  :) ~Liz
Oops, I used leftover WSO for this one.

Nice work on the cherries, Liz.

Couldn't believe Whole Foods had them for $2.99 a pound this week!!  Love 'em.

Thanks, EmmaLee, these small paintings are good for practicing technique.  I would like to be able to put down brush strokes and not fiddle with them and overwork a painting.   I did not bad with the first, but started to blend with the next two! Hard to break a bad habit!  I think I may have to do a bunch more minis! -Liz

Hi MAL! It's outrageous what we pay for Rainier cherries-$5.99 at Foodland on sale and finally down to $2.99 at Times, so you got a good price!  You have to paint Rainier cherries fast  then eat them because they will get brown fast! Not so with Bing which I hope to paint today. They will stay nice and dark red for a few days.  :) -Liz

    Another great mini painting Liz.  I now also enjoy painting/drawing on a smaller scale, really a time saver when one is pushed for time.  Patricia

Hi Patricia, these small paintings 5x7 or 4x6 save time and save money, too.  I've been painting on acrylic/oil canvas and water color paper and using small photo frames with cardboard backing.  In fact I'm using recycled frames that are in good condition for the small paintings in the assortment of paintings I will give to a fund raiser.  I heard that the donated items will be displayed in a silent auction so who knows what will be offered for them.  Since Nolan said folks like cherries, I hope to TRY to paint some red ones next.

I asked my husband to pick up red cherries for me.  He said he can't get a few; when he got home with a pound which he paid $2.75 for, I had a painting challenge!  ::)  ~Liz
