Hola from Puerto Vallarta! Arrived here last Thursday (I'm here for a month), been busy cleaning things up from the remodeling project we just finished at our condo. It's a bit humid here so trying to figure out how to paint in this weather - it does change the feeling of the paint and the paper..

Anyway, I was asked to create a piece of art for a nonprofit event called "Race for the Arts." They do a big race in the park to race money for art education. Three artists were selected to create a painting for the poster and the wine label - they really wanted a wine theme. The judges will choose their favorite. I found the reference photo for this painting on PMP - it's Viacheslav's. They haven't given me much time to create this - plus I haven't had much time between a trip to chicago, training in Sacramento and coming to PV to focus on painting. But thought I'd throw my hat in the ring and try. Any suggestions before I send this to the committee would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
Cheers,
Sharon

I like this..... here's a thought  :eyesclosed: it's just a thought. I'm actually undecided on it.

I love the reference to speed in the glass and the wine. Do you think it would improve the painting at all IF that sense of speed was carried to the stem and base? As I said, I'm on the fence about this one.

I know exactly what you mean, Val - and I thought about it. But then I realized the cup portion above is larger and is protecting the stem from the wind. I've named this "Wine Rush" - think that's an appropriate title?

Sharon, what a fun painting! I love it.

Just a couple of thoughts: the white outlines, especially on the left side of the goblet, seem to stand out a bit too much. Maybe tone them down a tad? The diagonal lines that form the part of the glass where the stem meets the base ought to mirror one another. Also, the elliptical lines at the base of the glass don't seem to line up, i.e. they wouldn't meet behind the glass.

Thanks Susan! I tried to soften the whites and equal out the stem sides. Also toned down the other areas suggested. Is this better?

Sharon

What I like is the simplicity of the white outline.

Wine Rush works as well.

:thankyou: Charles, Val and susan! I sent it to the nonprofit's executive director and she loves it. It now goes to the board of directors who are the judges. I'll let you know what happens as soon as I know!

I just heard my painting got chosen to be the art for the event poster and the wine label!! It was a unanimous vote of "yes" by the board!!! Its being made into the event ad, then the invitation, then  the wine label for 1st place.

Congrats a very deserving winner.

So will you be the next Andy Warhol?

Good luck with the event for any publicity, am sure you will handle it well!
