Using pastel pencils

This is my fourth attempt with pastels; i wasn't sure whether to put in a background or not! Decide to just have the babe.

Oh, wow, Liz, that's really good.  Hard to believe you could get it looking that good with little experience in pastels.

Looks fine without a background because the mom might be putting him down on his bedsheet after a bath. Not sure whether there needs to be more of a casted shadow on the background, though.

Well done Liz!!!  :heeha:     :clap: :clap: :clap:

I think I'd leave as is, to have a cast shadow you would need something solid close behind for the shadow to fall on.
Cheers, Val

Hi vsl mea,
Hope your both well;

I only have 5 pastel pencils , they are caran d'ache . But luckily there was a pale lemon, and 2 shade of a fleshy pink.
I did wonder what to do about the background, i thought if i put a background then i would have to consider where the light was hitting for shadow. So decided he is resting  on mum's arm in mid air as you say mea going to his crib for his naptime..i noticed an american pastel artist used foam board to rest on. I had a pack of 5 A4 black foam boards delivered to me by mistake, when i inform the retailer of the mistake they said i could keep it. So i decided to use it for my graphite drawings so attached it to my drawing board. Here is my rather scruffy drawing board with the pic of baby taped to it.
