Great shape. Mysti.  Just need more darker values.  Check reference photo.

Mysti, you just need to darken the shadow side.... and don't forget his shadow!!!  O0   Nolan caught me for that one!  :knuppel2:    :2funny:

Thanks!  It is coming, hopefully this week.  I have not felt like I really understood what to do with the cross hatching, so have been doing some extra research.  I ran across your crosshatch fish video and some lightbulbs went off watching that one.  I am practicing on some small sketches right now, but nothing worthy of posting yet.

just don't get too worried about perfecting cross hatching. Cross hatching is just one technique of many. Rather continue with the course so you can try all the other techniques.

Then once you have completed the course you will know what you enjoy doing and can concentrate more on that while coming back to areas you were not so strong in to practice them every now and again.

That way you will stay motivated as you are drawing more successes than struggles O0

Thank you, Nolan.  I learned a lot watching your fish video.  I haven’t had time until today to take a few hours and draw.  You know, I really liked my first teddy bear, but he took over a week to draw being careful about each line.  The second one I was more copying your lines than making my own.  You made the point a couple of times in your fish video that crosshatch should be quick.  I drew the fish with you, then added a second one, in less than two hours.  I think I understand it now and will move on to the next, as you suggest.  Scribbles look like fun!

:heeha:   Great fish Mysti!       You are doing so well and I wouldn't be too concerned over time spent to complete your works.... you've got a long way to go to catch my record!  :2funny:

As Dennis has told me, "slowly, slowly catchee monkey", quality now....speed later. In my case I feel my quality has improved....can't say much for my speed though!     :run:      :2funny:

Thank you, Val!  Is that a challenge to catch your record?   :2funny:   I have a better schedule with more time for drawing now, so hopefully I will not take so long for my scumbled goldfish.

Nolan really did a great thing with creating this course.  It has opened up a whole new world for me.

So, this morning I drew the outline of a pumpkin 🎃 on my iPad.  Then I decided to try out scumbling on it.  I found I couldn’t stop with it, so I kept going.  There are lots of things wrong with it.  For one thing, I did my lighting and shading on the pumpkin and then added a candle light source from a different direction.  It’s always something, eh? :2funny: I had fun doing it and learned a lot while working on it today.
