I got it done, along with getting the paper version laminated.  Looks like I will be having a ball with the next lesson.

Thanks, V!     I am working on the ball now.  It is really hard.  :heeha:  I have drawn several and am not happy with any of them.  I just took a look at yours and it is exceptional.   :twothumbs:  I got a few good ideas comparing yours to mine.  Hopefully I can execute what I see.  Time to get back on the ball.

:welcome: Mysti. I'm catching up on posts and started reading your thread. I am so excited to see what you do with this course. I started the "Let's Draw" course a year ago February. It is Wonderful! Have a blast and soak in everything Nolan and the group have to share.  ;)

Hi, Kathy!     I am having a lot of fun with the course.  Just learning what the different pencils are called and how the hardness affects the drawing has been a real eye opener for me.

I took a peek at your course drawings and your ball looks great too.  I am truly inspired by the phenomenal art I see here.

 :thankyou: for the welcome!

I am still working on shading.  I feel like this is a very important concept to get right, so I am spending extra time working it out.   :painting:

I thought it would be helpful to take a ball I have and light it up and observe how the shadow changes using a bright flashlight.  It was interesting seeing how the lights and shadows changed.  Then I had the idea that if I used a lamp as the light source, my hands would be free to take a picture.  I still seem to be having trouble.  For some strange reason part of the shadow has a non-ball-like shape.

:2funny:   Seems you have a problem similar to one I used to have! Mine was called Sylais, affectionately known as "Artisticat"! They can/could be so very helpful!     :2funny:

Sylais loved to paint!   :painting:

:smitten: Awe Mysti and Val, your fur kids are so precious. In fact, both of those photos would make great paintings.  :D

Sylais is beautiful.  Love the nickname Artisticat.   :painting:

I hope one day to be able to draw or paint my Ace a.k.a. The Destroyer.

Here's the digital version of the ball.  I am starting to understand the shadows and highlights and how they create shape.  The shadow and highlight on #5 are from a picture I got before Ace stole my ball.

:heeha: Wow Mysti, digital is a whole different medium, isn't it? I think your placement of the shadows and use of tones are well done. What the digital seems to lack is the ability to blend them for a gradual shading. I've not had the opportunity to try digital drawing so I'm not sure how it works. (I do hope to upgrade to iPad Pro this year)

Hi, Kathy.  Yes, it is very different.  It can blend, but I found I was over blending, so I just focused on the drawing.  I am still learning the tools.

The iPad Pro with the Apple Pencil is amazing.  It is what inspired me to find and take the drawing course.  You will love it!   Since it is digital and portable, you can draw just about anywhere and not have to worry about having materials with you.

Adobe sketchbook was 5 or 6 dollars to add the pro tools on the iPad, and that gave all the pencils as predefined brushes.

I finished my pencil drawings.  Mine are nowhere near where I see others are who took the course, but I am very happy with what I have learned.  These balls will certainly have trouble bouncing.  :2funny:
