Oh, yes, Mysti.  The values are much better now.

Hey, the few new cracks add more character!

That's awesome, much improved! Now you just need to remember to lean on the extra piece of folded paper when drawing  ;)  This I often forget and smudge all over!

:thankyou: Thank you, Patricia.  I was surprised at just how much of a difference it made.  I guess stopping too soon is a rookie mistake.  I would not have done more without the encouragement and pushes to make it better that I got here.

 :thankyou: Thank you, Barry.

:thankyou: Mez.  That is the first time I forgot it and I kicked myself when I got done.  I have been using my laminated tonal value chart.  I just wipe it with a damp towel to keep it clean.

Digital version of a cross hatch tea cup.  I couldn't get good lighting from the sun in front of it, so it is instead using an overhead light.  That created a full single bright line down the length of the cup along with a very dark shadow with a strong line between the dark and mid-tone shadows.  I used the erasing trick from the first lesson to erase in the light.

P.S. I took one look at my tea cup and decided to go find a much simpler one.  This certainly is not what Nolan had in mind for cross hatching.

Mysti,

Would love to sit and have a cup of tea with you.

Nice work on the cup.  Was it a clear glass cup?  I was wondering why the shadow would have the the light edge around it.

Wow, you were smart not to try and draw your cup.  It's so ornate.

:thankyou: mea.  A cup of tea would be nice!

I see what you mean about the light ring.  It is an opaque white tea cup and that ring shouldn't be there. The light at the very bottom of the cup is due to the bright overhead light reflecting. I think the edge of the mid tone shadow is too stark too.  I will work on fixing those.

Good job drawing the  cup.
Personally I think adding more tonal values as you did with the rocks would make it more realistic.

Mea, Kathy S. and Teresa, thank you.  I had stopped way too early again.  I like this version much better.

Kathy, How are you liking your iPad Pro?  I am starting to play a little bit with procreate.  It is nice, but I am finding my comfort zone in Sketchbook while I do this pencil drawing course.  I think I will use procreate more when I get to some color courses.

 Version 2 is incredible, Mysti. I am so impressed with what you are doing digitally.

I love my iPad Pro but I'm not crazy about digital drawing yet. I don't feel like I have much control over the way my lines hit the screen. My shapes look wobbly and childlike. I've been playing with the Pigment app a bit just to get the feel of laying down color but it's more like using a coloring book. I will venture into sketching eventually but I prefer to put my limited time into real pencils and paper.     ;)
