Liz,

She looks like a delightful lady.  I love the character that your portraits are able to capture.

Hi Mea,
Thankyou, i was asked the other day why i drawn portraits?
Its quite simple really, i want to draw realitically but not necessarily photorealistic ! There are some many variations in faces, each one reflects the life story of the person so each has its challenges! Also, unlike alot of artists i draw the eyes last, i prefer to have the subject staring blank at me until the very end and then hopefully - magic!
I am also a believer in practice, practice , practice.. to me flitting from one medium to another means 'jack of all trades ',  master of none' i have so much more to learn with the magic of graphite.
The other day i was sat for over 2 hours in the doctors waiting for a blood test, i got bored and thumb through their dogeared magazines, there was a small gallery of royalty free photos advertising one of the websites. I had an 'h' 'hb'. Pencil in my bag so i begged some printer paper and sat and drew this craggy old man in a hat. Its okay given i only had those 2 pencils ... but what other medium could i have done that with?- i never added it here because it is what it is not good but not bad either , maybe redo with full range of pencils sometime.

Take care and thank you for your encouragement :thankyou: :painting:

Liz.... please post your drawing, it doesn't matter whether you think it's good or bad. As we like to refer to them...warts and all!  ;)    You would be surprised how much you and ('me')  we can learn from them. I have posted many a wart in my day I can tell you!  :eyesclosed:    :2funny:
Cheers, Val

Hi Val,
Okay, will post later today, its on 75gsm (at a guess) inkjet paper, using an'H' and 'HB' pencil. I really would have liked to have my '2B' , '4B' and '6B' . Still i managed to get some dark tones by adding layers of 'H' and 'HB' but it lacks tone...  :painting: :thankyou:

LIZ!  :faint: Are you kidding me?! I see a beautifully detailed weathered face, great old straw hat (not unlike my newer one), and a very nice rendering of a soft comfy shirt. There are some serious stories in that face, and you've captured them all.  O0

This is great and I love it. I'm so glad you posted it.
Cheers, Val

Hi Val,
Thankyou, i filled what tooth the paper had quite quickly , though having said that it took quite a number of light layers allowing me to get the darks. Just shows how valuable it is to have someone elses eyes. Thank you again.

I have done another portrait of a hard working  mum who has had a busy day feedng the  kids and the 'old man' getting ready to go to sleep.
Hope you lie it :smitten: :thankyou: :painting:

This is fantastic, Liz.  The lion looks like he's wondering why you are drawing his picture.

The old man drawing is good too.  Even the shirt is so well done.

I Wanted to try drawing an unruly beard, a work in progress i think! Perhaps i should find a guy who values personal hygiene ! Lol

This guy certainly  doesn't believe in personsl hygiene that much!

Not happy with the beard.
