This is my entry for the April Challenge 2017, without a frame.
Rendering the Water Lily was a "challenge" indeed... had to use a magnifying glass to make out the fine details in the background in order to keep within the "No changes allowed" rule; but I enjoyed painting it.
Watercolor on 140 lb paper.  9" x 12 " finished size.

Wow, Maria, the water lily is so beautiful.  Bright lively colors.

This is quite gorgeous, Maria! Not sure how long it's been since you painted with watercolors last, but you sure haven't lost your touch!

:thankyou: Gita,  :thankyou: Mea,  :thankyou: Val,  :thankyou:  Sharon
I apologize for the belated appreciation of ur kind comments, I just found your replies today.

So that you know, I stayed away from the Paint Basket because it was difficult  for me to respond timely, or to comment appropriately to the numerous posts of this amazing Venue. Once in a while I would sign in to keep up with member activity.
Later on I started painting again and posted my work, trying my best to stay active , but again I sort of " fell off".  Maybe it is because there is too much in my Plate?

This year I decided to choose just ONE subject on the Forum to see if that would make it easier to stay in touch.  My choice was the Monthly Challenge. I am loving it.

No worries Maria, it isn't easy keeping up with all the goings on. Just focus on the medium you work most with and  pop in now and again. No need to comment on everything, I miss lots!!!  :D

Your rendition of this particular flower still boggles me, so beautifully captured.
Cheers, Val

 :thankyou:  Patty,  :thankyou: Mary Lou

I was intrigued by the beauty of this little guy and I googled it to learn more about it.  Larger details emerged from my research , which made me become more acquainted with its anatomy.  With learned eyes, most of the hidden attributes of the  lily in the original photo were revealed to me: the shoots, the intricate root extensions and the like.  Your appreciation of the resulting work warms my heart. :-*

Mary Lou, look for my comments in your post regarding ur move to a new home last year, you may find it interesting.
