Hola from Puerto Vallarta! I'm at our condo here - my parents just left after a 7 day visit. I finally set up my painting station in the guest bedroom and decided to first paint this Cactus photo I took in Cabo San Lucas a couple of years ago. It reminded me so much of a Georgie O'Keefe painting when I saw it, I knew I had to try to paint it! Any suggestions??

And the trip with my folks went fairly well. There were a lot of mobility issues (thank god for wheelchairs at the airport May and the one in our condo building!) My mom ended up in bed for 2-4 days feeling week, but when her energy was up she loved being wheeled along the Malecon. My dad was addicted to sitting on our balcony, watching the waves crash on the shore. And they both ate extremely well!! It was exhausting but also so satisfying that I could give them such a special experience.
Cheers,
Sharon

So happy that your time with your parents went well.

Glad you can get some painting time in.

Great-looking cactus, but not sure what the shape is in the center of it.

It's a skeleton! Georgia O'Keefe loved painting those! The Mexicans revere the dead, so a lot of art are skulls!

Beautiful Sharron. In Texas we see a lot of paintings like this.

Gracias, Dennis & EmmaLee! And Mea, when I worked for Wells Fargo, New Mexico was part of my territory. I spent a lot of time in Santa Fe and was there when the Georgia O'Keefe Museum opened. I've been such a fan of hers for years - she's definitely one of my muses!
Cheers,
Sharon

Sharon, you are a good and generous daughter. Your parents are very fortunate. I'm glad their visit worked out so well, but I do understand how much energy that consumed.

What a fun painting! Well done.

Gorgeous Sharon  O0   I agree with Dennis about the cactus. I tried painting some years ago when we were still in the east Caribbean. They just never turned out looking quite right. Well done!

We see a lot of cattle skulls down here, huge cattle ranches in Guatemala. It seems a favourite of many tourists is a cash cow. Doesn't take my fancy to have one hanging on my wall but there you go, it takes all kinds!

A fellow artist that lives here on the Rio makes cash cows and does quite well from them..... guess that's why it's a cash cow!        :2funny:

I am sure your parents were thrilled to be with you and have such a nice vacation.  Wonderful!

Your painting is wonderful, too.  Not an easy subject to paint.  Well done!

:thankyou: Susan, Kathy, Val, Gita and MaryLou! Having painted a few cacti/succulents I'm really starting to like the challenge of creating those.  And regarding the skulls, there is one lady in town here who embellishes them with jewels and they sell like hot cakes!!

Regarding my folks, after all of my mom's health issues these past few years, it was so nice to give them a much needed change of scenery...and it was fun to show them our home here. They finally understand why we love it so much!
Cheers,
Sharon

That's fabulous Sharon, enjoy your parents as much as you can. It's fantastic that you were able to share this part and time of your life with them. I'm sure they will remember it fondly.  :flowers:
