Ta much Patricia. Almost back to the usual pain level so all is good.  O0

I have managed to get my soft pastels in some semblance of order, still some sorting to do!  ::) I've kept my harder pastels in their original box for now. I made a start on my pastel lesson yesterday, heavy rains again today so will try again tomorrow if it's not too rainy. Unfortunately I  can't work inside the boat at the moment as our only cooling is with fans. With the boat having to be closed up those fans would make one fine psychedelic mess in here!
Cheers, Val

Val:  Good job on your pastels. I have always wanted to try them but I was afraid that the dust would do more damage to my lungs.
Glad you are doing much better.  Keep painting. O0 O0

Val, your pastels look very organised.  I use mainly the pencils which I absolutely love as there isn't too much dust with them. I really enjoy them tremendously and I am sure you are going to as well.   Patricia

Wow - your set up looks so professional! Are you going to create some art or just admire your snazzy set up?!?!?

Thanks Kathy and Patricia. I also have lung issues which is why I gave up oils many years ago. I have to be careful around solvents and even household cleaners. What I did find in all of my experimenting with various papers, is that the sanded papers create much less airbourne dust particles. I still have a few different ones to try out. The real danger would be if you blew the dust off the paper, and even more so if in a closed area. I am very careful.  O0

I now have two different sets of pastel pencils. My original Stabilo Carbothello, and now the Koh-I-Noor Gioconda pastel pencils which are softer. So between those two types of pencils, and the various makers of hard to extra soft pastels, I think I've got all of the bases covered, hopefully!  :faint:

I know it all sounds like a lot, but they will have to last a few years. Plus it will take me that long to save up again!  :cost:    :2funny:

I would not be near so well set up if not for Lynn's kind generosity and guidance in advising me on the many types of paper and pastels. So my journey begins!  :yippee:
Cheers, Val

Sharon...  :nono: tsk, tsk.  :2funny:   I am already the proud owner of a couple of shirts with permanently (yet colourful) stained shirts! I apparently have a habit of neglecting the old t-towel in favour of my shirt or pants. No worries about the pants, they are super coloured so don't show. Lloyd refers to them as my 'painter pants'. Now I have a couple of shirts to match!  O0

I am working on a lesson at the moment, and planning out three originals I am want to get at. I'm not sure if my 'speed' will be much if any better than my paintings were, but I am ever hopeful!  ;) Stay tuned......
Cheers, Val

Sharon

Framing my shirt/pants may make for a better wall hanging!  ;D   Wish I had Dennis' steady hand! I find working upright somewhat easier....but my hand is not steady without a solid brace under my arm. We'll just say my pastels will have 'character' shall we?  :2funny:

    Looking forward, with my suspenders getting tighter and tighter, to seeing your completed pastel lesson and the three originals you are planning on doing Val.  No hurry  :run:

Val - my stepdad used to be a boxer. My mom framed his boxing shorts and they hang proudly on their wall - quite a conversation piece! And I know what you mean about having a steady hand! That's one thing I love about watercolors - I can lean my hand on the painting and it doesn't mess it up and the paint doesn't get all over me!
Cheers,
Sharon

Patricia I'll do my best to keep on pushing through, can't have those suspenders snapping back at you!      ;D

Sharon it must just be me.... I've touched my hand on damp spots more than a few times!  ::) Just my lot I suppose...I seem to see painting as a 'contact' sport!  :2funny:

The waiting is over. The results are in, and my brother has been turned down for lung transplant. Sad news to be sure, but not unexpected. I shall be ever so glad to see the backside of this year.
