In an effort to get myself to "loosen up" with my paintings and to stop myself fiddling with things, I decided to do a timed exercise using a limited palette and an alarm  clock.

Inspired by Val's fabulous photo for the March drawing challenge, I got stuck in. This one was done in 1 hour, used only 5 colours and applied to an A3 size of paper. This was a fun thing to do, the size of the paper was just large enough to do large sweeps across it with the pastel sticks and the fact I only had 5 colours to play with to create the illusion of aerial perspective and depth certainly cut down on the fiddle factor! At the end of the hour I forced myself to step away and look at it from across the studio. I matted it to stop myself going back and "tittivating" with it  :2funny:

It's a bit ropey in places, the blending is not as smooth as I would like it but overall I'm not too unhappy with it.

As always your thoughts, comments, crits and suggestions are more than welcome.

Cheers
Fi

Fi,

You did wonderfully well with this.  Love the blues.

I am seriously thinking of doing it for the drawing challenge.

:heeha: This is great Fi ! I'd recognize those Mayan Mountains anytime! The shape is quite unique in that there is a section of the distant mountains that looks very much like a Mayan lying down sky gazing. You've caught it beautifully.  O0   Great job catching the mist.

I just may have to have a go at this...I'll see what colours I have that will work. Since my colours are somewhat limited I should have no trouble keeping the palette down. How exciting!!!  :yippee:

Thank you Mea, Val and Steve  :)  I really appreciate the feedback.

I heartily recommend doing something like this as an exercise - it really does loosen you up especially as the timer nears the end and mild panic sets in  :2funny:

My panic exists on several levels.....  one might even say every step of the way! Throwing in a timer?  :faint: Undertaker has been duly notified, burial at sea highly illegal...but arrangements can be made!     :2funny:

Tomorrow is the day.

   Great job Fi.  I don't think I could work to a timer for I would freeze in fright especially towards the end.

Apologies Fi....  :surrender: I truly did mean to do this today....but something caught my eye behind the door. Those poor old grapes looked so forlorn.  :-\ What to do? So...the grapes are getting a pastel makeover!!!  :yippee:

:2funny: :2funny: Not to worry Val - I know that feeling well.... I start out with the intention of doing a landscape and end up doing an animal portrait .....
