I have started experimenting with pen and ink and watercolour (wash?)   (  :help:   ...what is the difference between a wash and painting with water colour?? )

A Lapwing, its a small drawing done on a 6x9 I think.  All comments welcome  :)

Win,

Welcome to the ink and wash club.

Your bird is so well done.  Quite regal looking.

I'll be interested to see what definitions people give you for line and wash - my understanding is that it's line and wash if the ink drawing is done first, then a little watercolor wash is applied.

I also read where loose watercolor can be applied and then ink is used to outline a shape that might appear to be something in the colors. (prefer the first explanation)

We heard a bird outside our house yesterday with a very different chirp.  I finally saw the bird making it and it looked somewhat like this as it had some pointy thing sticking out the top of his head.  Am going to research "lapwings" today and see if there is a variety like I saw.

In line and wash the ink work has to be the main feature. Only a very thin glaze of watercolor is normally applied - nothing like the amount of pigment as in a normal watercolor painting.

The test is this: If it were possible to remove the ink work from the line and wash, the resultant watercolor left behind would not make any sense at all.
