Mazel tov on your move, Kathy! We'll be in Tennessee from Feb 5-10 - first in Memphis for 2 nights and than in Nashville for 3 nights. Our first time visiting the state (we're doing a big training for Ace Hardware in Nashville on the 8th.) Will you be there then? Can't wait to see Graceland and the Grand Ole Opry! And moving is a great chance to purge!!
Cheers,
Sharon

Tennessee is a beautiful state, Sharon. I've flown into Nashville but not spent anytime there sight seeing yet.  I hope you enjoy your visit.
We don't anticipate the actual move until March. It all depends on how long it takes to sell and close escrow here in CA.   ;)

Wow, the world is moving at breakneck speed out there!    Life in my little piece of the world runs at a much more relaxed pace. Congratulations on the sale.  O0

    Wonderful news on the sale of your condo Kathy.  We have found a townhouse to rent for a year and Oh! what a nightmare moving from a house into a small townhouse. Just thinking about it makes me feel claustrophobic, in fact, I am having sleepless nights worrying about how I am going to get all my stuff into the place but there was absolutely nothing else in our area for rent. I am also fretting about losing my "art space".  I may have to paint in my bedroom which wouldn't be a bad idea. Anyway, I will make a plan somehow.  Wishing you a happy, smooth transition and hope you find what you are looking for Kathy.

:thankyou:  Danielle for your well wishes with our move.

Bravo Kathy!

And Patrivia, you are not supposed to move all your stuff on the townhouse.  This is a great opportunity to purge all the non necessary, all the double and triple items, etc.  And thing about Goodwill or Salvation Army and how pleased those with nothing could use your double items.

The biggest purge I did was to give most of my books away.  It was most painful.  I had tonnes, and books are my treasure.  I told myself I was being selfish by not sharing my treasure with those who did not have books.   They went to the library of a woman shelter.  I then decided that I could only keep one nice bookcase and what I kept had to fit in.  So only kept very special books.

The other big purge I did was paper and documents.  I bough a nice little scanner for the computer and spend a week scanning paper into an organize collection of PDFs.  I keep 2 copies on separate hard drive.  All the paper went into recycling.  It transformed a full office room jammed  packed with files in 2 hand-held hard drive... each no bigger then a paperback book!

Then I systematically gave away everything that was double, keeping the best one.  Really how many hammers can I use at once? wine bottle opener?  cooking pans?  How many sets of bedsheet have you collected?  (most of us needs the one on the best and one for change).  Only keep good functional furniture...

Do you start to see space opening up in your home?  You may even found that you have room for a little table or desk to call Studio.

Good Luck, both of you!

P.S.  it is a myth that the minute you get rid of something you will need it.  I said that for year and actually made myself beleive it.
Cheers, Annie

Love what you wrote, Annie!! Purge is good for the soul - and it feels wonderful to donate to those less fortunate.

:thankyou:  So much Annie for your suggestions and yes, I will donate to Goodwill for sure, in fact, they always get anything we no longer need and I will be donating my two lounge suites to them, because the Townhouse has the kitchen, diningroom and lounge all in one smallish room ... I thought I was going to pass out when I saw it because my diningroom table is 7 foot long!!! So there is no room for a huge lounge suite. However, the townhouse has a big basement so I will be able to store a lot of my stuff there. As for my books, I just can't part with them because I often go back and re-read them ... I consider them my friends. There are some that I could give away but not all especially my art books which will go to my grandchildren when I pass on because they are all so interested in art too, even the youngest who is two and a half. When they come to me all they want to do is paint or do crafts.  :2funny:  Thanks so much for it is interesting to hear what others do.   Patricia
