Welcome to the site Erica. Dennis told me a while back that "all roads lead to Rome". It stuck in my head and think it's a great phrase. Everyone approaches a painting differently. It's kind of like picking out clothes...I like that, or I am not sure about that..just keep on winking and feeling as you paint.
The moment you find yourself mostly satisfied with a painting and think you'll "just quickly" do this or that, that's the moment to stop completely. Take the painting off your easel and put it aside for at least 24 hours, then reassess whether it really needs that tweak.
