I will be entering several line and wash paintings in an up-coming exhibit.

How should I label them as "medium?"   "MIXED MEDIA?"  Or can I say "Ink and Watercolor Wash."

When I use HEMP paper, I always add that, too. i.e. "Watercolor on Hemp Paper"

No, line and wash is not a mixed media as much as one uses a pencil or a pen to sketch the outlines/details on canvas or paper, etc, ready for painting in any medium be it oils, acrylic, pastel etc.
It is just another style of watercolour painting.

For example, I can draw a subject in either pencil or ink, and paint over it in thick watercolour and it would always be classed as a watercolour painting. The only difference here is that, instead of thick full watercolour paint, that same watercolour is just thinned down so that the ink or pencil is visible.

Dennis,

Thank you so much for that explanation.  And thank you for having so many opportunities for us to learn how to do line and wash.

Your analogy reminds me of the story about the emperors invisible clothes.  heehee
