Thanks, Win, Danielle, Sharon, Susan, and Gita.

I just love line and wash and wish I had more time to play with it.

I took the skills I learned in Nolan's Pencil class on drawing an owl and applied them to an Ink drawing. (I actually penciled it in first, then inked it so that I could erase any mistakes.)

I did it FREEHAND!!!  Really.  I can't believe I did it without any tracing!  So pleased.

I wanted you to see it before I add the color wash.  Any suggestions before I start?

Mea, your progress is outstanding to say the least.  My word, you are doing so very well and it is just too wonderful to see just how well you are actually doing. It really makes my heart sing.  Your owl is excellent and I can't wait to see it after the wash.

Just saw all these,  really great improvement over only a few paintings

I like the way you leave just a bit of white on your paper.  It really pop up the wash.

Your owl is good.  I would just add a bit of shadow where the wing attached to the body, to make the wing more distinctive... but I don't know if this effect should be done with the ink or with the wash.

Looking forward to see it done.
Cheers, Annie

Thanks, Val, EmmaLee, Steve, Patricia, Annie, and Mary Lou.  Hope to get the wash on today.  The shadowing will come with the wash.

Not sure about a background yet.  Any thoughts?

One artist friend here in Hawaii suggested I make copies of this inked version, then wash them all differently to see which I like best, before I touch the original with water.  Going to try that.

Mea, that's a darned good idea to make copies and do different washes before touching your original.

Thanks, Gita, Patricia, and Annie.

I tried to make copies on my hemp paper, but the HP Ink Jet would not take it, so I am making the first try on oaktag.  I just wanted something that was heavier than copy paper.

We'll see what happens.  I am going to stick pretty much with yellow ochre and brownish earth tones for the wash.

I will post it again  BEFORE I do a background.

Here's my first test painting - primarily yellow ochre and burnt sienna.  I copied the owl onto oaktag (hoping it would not buckle like copy paper).  It didn't, BUT my yellows turned green on the paper.  UGH.

Tried to print on hemp paper, but the copier would not take it.  Will try again on copy paper to see if I get clearer colors.  Oh, the background is a light wash of ultramarine blue and viridian because the paper was so dark, nothing else seemed to show up.

I am open to all suggestions for the next test wash.
