, I find it extremely difficult to capture a likeness in portraiture but hopefully in another 73 years I will get it right  :2funny: :2funny:

Well I think you've captured his likeness pretty much spot on Patricia,

:heeha:   Wow Nolan. This was an incredable class. Thank you for all the detailed instruction. This class has given me the confidence to try my hand at drawing one of my grand daughters.  ;)
I welcome any comments and suggestions.

Beautifully done, KathyS,

Look at his bottom lip - looks too rigidly lined and white, I think.

His eyes are so expressive.

Thank you, Mea. I agree about the bottom lip. It is quite ridged in the photo and Nolan's drawing. I had thought about toning it down a bit but wanted to follow closely to the original photo. Am I possibly interpreting what I see to harshly?

Kathy, you've captured this fierce look in the boy's eyes. The lips ( Meas comment) look a bit too organised. A bit of irregularities would be more natural, I think. Just a thought- I am saying this without having seen the original photograph. So well done!!

Beautifully done Kathy. Where the lip is concerned, I think there is just a bit too much white/light 'soldiers in a row', fade some of them out a bit and narrow a couple and you'll have it nailed. Go gently, it won't take too much, just an adjustment in values.
Cheers, Val

   Kathy, you have done a superb job on the little boy.

I found it very hard to get the exact tonal values. In fact, if you look at Nolan's drawing, the little boy's face is very black and I could not get it as dark as Nolan's. I wonder if it is the pencils I am using, or the fear of going too dark with the 8B? I also battled to get the "cross" look in his eyes but you have nailed it.  As for his lips, I would agree to tone them down a little as others have suggested.

Anyway, you have captured his expression beautifully and as I said, you have done a fantastic job. A pencil in your hand is like magic as Win once said and I agree wholeheartedly.  Looking forward to seeing your grand-daughter's portrait which no doubt will be stunning.

I darkened the bottom lip and adjusted some of the lines. It's subtle but looks better to me. Is it enough?

Much improved Kathy.  O0   A little more value near the bottom edge of the lip would finish it nicely, but great just as it is. Well done you!
