Gita, I never had lotus roots, so I can't comment on the similarity. The water lily roots are a side dish in Korea and Japan. Don't know about China. Usually you get them in restaurants or special occasions. Not an every day item like kimchi or sauerkraut, which I tell my wife is German kimchi. :)

Gita, I'll be doing a few practice runs before attempting a bigger one. It has been wicked hot and humid here of late with thunderstorms and cells popping up with little notice. Heavy rains just are not good when it comes to keeping w/c on the paper!  :2funny:   I like to paint this way with no drawing, just freehanding what I see in front of me. Which we all know can be challenging just due to changing light. Throw in a floating dinghy that keeps moving about on it's anchor and it gets really fun!  :D I perceive that this is going to create some very interesting and unusual visual effects. (to say the least).  ::)

When I get through with it, by all means I'd be interested to see what you can make of it. Jump right in!  :yippee:
Cheers, Val

Steve,

I make wicked kimchee dipping sauce!  Just throw some kimchee in the blender and grind it up a bit, then add it to an equal amount of sour cream or yogurt!

Sorry off topic, but oh so delicious.

Hmmm, Gita.  I'll give it a go, but it may lack the zesty color of kimchee.

Hmmm...wonder how a dip would taste with wasabi??

Oh, dear, way off topic now!

How fun Val.  I like the loose treatment of the water.

Nice painting Val. You make me laugh with some of your comments and ingenious ideas such as keeping for paper wet by dunking it in the water from your dinghy.

My but it has been a while since I had a splash in the puddles!    Well I decided today I should kick off the new year with a baptism! This is a lovely fellow I met in Placencia. Funny fellow didn't want a proper portrait done, this is the angle he presented me. Just a quick splash of colour to get the brushes moving. Done in one of my pencil sketch books...soaked through a page or two. Must remember to take better paper with me.
I guess it has been even longer than I thought!

Off to a good start, Val.

I am posting my new year day art marathon ( a sketch, a WC, and an oil) under the MOTIVATION category.

Will have to have a boo and see what you've been up to....  :detective:     ;D

   Lovely kitty Val.  I don't know how I missed this entire post dated back to August.  I also thought that your water lillies were excellently done.
