I've got to visit the only 3 stores that keep some art supplies that we have here in East London SA and can't find what I need. At least you've got an option to choose what you want in one store.
AS for online buying that is even funnier

You'll learn lots here. There are no better teachers than Nolan and Dennis and the forum is a friendly place where we learn from each other and enjoy what we have most in common,
and drawing.
I hope to see more of you here and I'd love to see your artwork. Feel free to post pictures of what you've done. You'll get good, friendly feedback. It's a great way to learn.

Lillian for the warm welcome.
It's nice to "meet" you. I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone here, you all seem like a friendly, helpful and humourous group from what I've seen on the forums.
Love your work!

I wanted to paint some nice juicy cherries. Watched the equipment videos and beginners oils section first and after I came home mu wife asked why I bought more water colors. I told her I panicked in the isle at Hobby Lobby and stayed with what I barely know.

Well everyone, I think Claude summed it up perfectly, but he forgot step 0. The one before you you go to the art store.
Step 0 - Steal Claude's wallet!!!

Thanks guys
Well I went to buy some equipment today and ended panicking and leaving without anything
but I did take photos so I will keep reading and check against the photos of what they had available (not very much) and try again.
Some of the brands available were
Jasart brush set (hog bristle)
Bockingford stretched canvas triple Gresso priming
And Tiny bottles of Reeves Linseed oil and something called painting medium but it said that was for use with acrylic only??
And here I was thinking I was going to breeze in and follow my list and breeze out

Hi Lisa
The brush set, canvas (Gesso not Gresso) and Linseed oil should be fine, but if the medium was an Acrylics one, it's not for use with oil paint, so that is a no no.
Also with the canvas - you have two options - stretched canvas and canvas panels, the stretched doesn't really "need" to be framed, but if you want to display your tutorial ones the panels need to be framed (ie extra $)
Just some ideas.

Lisa, with you being in New Zealand, I can get Dennis to mail you our Paint Basket starter kit. That has everything you need in it already.
PM me where you are and let's see if that will work
