No critique here!!! This is wonderful Patricia.  Very believable bird and gorgeous water color with those peaceful subtle waves.  Just great!

Excellent Patricia    Just one small comment: there is a wave that looks like airflow over the top wing. Straighten that out to have a perfect painting O0

Here is my offering for this class - another enjoyable lesson thank you  :)

For some reason the blue shadow colour has come out pink in the photo .......  which looks a little peculiar at the moment!  Maybe there's a pink sky above him  :2funny:

as always comments, crits and suggestions are most welcome

Cheers

Fiona,

Nice work on the gannet.  I like it.  I leaned away from the computer screen and the shadow is a nice mauve.

Here is my Gannet in flight. The background I used pan pastels. I thought since I had them I might as well practice using them. Some of the colors I did not have so I had to improvise.  ::)

Your gannet looks good, Nina.

Not sure if you meant to do it, but it actually looks like there is fog over the water. I like that effect.  Seen it many times living on cape Cod.

Hope the gannet knows his way.

Great job Nina!  :heeha: How did you like using the pans? I really liked them, more like actually painting (if that makes sense to you).

I haven't had my pan pastels out since the tiger.... there are a number of lessons I want to try. BUT... focused on the drawing right now.

:surrender:      :help:    I seem to have garnered some new opportunities which I hadn't counted on. I tried laying the green of the sea first, then adding some of the blue in patches. When I tried to merge the two, the blue just seemed to swallow up the greens.  I tried adding more green over the blue and it seems to disappear into the blue! Dennis never mentioned this was a magic class!  ;D I thought I would just try laying the colours in and not blend them. Any thoughts or suggestions gratefully accepted.  :D

Looking pretty good to me Val, the bird is soft looking just a bit of rounding on the beak.   Nothing wrong with the background

Val, you are now over the hump and "flying". Excellent

There should be very little blending with the final touches in pastel  O0

Thanks Patricia, Steve, and Kathy. Much appreciated. I'll see if I can finish it off tonight as it's another night of anchor watch. We have a pretty good blow going, 36knts. at this point. Not too bouncy in here so far.

It is 0340 .... and I am done!  :yippee:

Lighting is not the best but I am done with this. Many errors but discovering new ways to work around some of the issues I've been having with the pans. Onward and upward!  :painting:

  Thanks Dennis!

Thank you EmmaLee, I appreciate your support.

Question for Gita.... Do you find you have a problem when freehanding that your subject seems to keep getting bigger?    I was sure I measured this fellow for size correctly... he seems to have grown exponentially during the drawing process. I didn't think his upper wing was going to fit on the paper!  :eyesclosed: Maybe my math and compass skills are just a smidge rusty.....

 ach! Those wings, almost drove me to distraction! Thanks again Juan.

Ta much Fi, poor fellow has a rather large proboscis, if I try to get a sharp point on my pencils they crumble.

Ah Win, if you saw me wielding all the sponges and tools and other paraphernalia you  might want to rescind that remark!  :2funny: I thank you kindly regardless.  ;)
