Title: Frustration
Post by: johnbeam on December 04, 2015, 08:02:21 AM

Has anyone ever had paintings that just give you extreme frustration? I started this painting 6-7 months ago and its been sitting around staring at me. I decided I wanted to finish it so I decided to start working on it again and just like before I started to get excited about how it was going to turn out then I just keep ruining it and struggling with everything...

There's so many layers of acrylic paint on the canvas now I'm ready to give up again... I wonder if I should just give up until I'm better painter or keep putting on layer after layer? How do you tell when you should start over and/or give up?

Sometimes I have almost given up then I keep working and it gets better and turns out ok...  I guess its the amount of paint on the canvas that is making me wonder if its better to just start over... so much work lost... it seems like the paint doesn't even move or react the same way after you rework it over and over.. plus you have created texture that you don't want after so many layers....

I'm unhappy with the background clouds and sky... plane is underpainted but requires lots of concentration and precision to keep from painting it over and over... the straight lines and detailed curves are a challenge...

Maybe its time to put it back on the shelf and try another kind of painting...

Ug...  :'(

Hey John,

I actually like the sky and the plane. I know it can be frustrating when you have done all this work, and it seems like it just ain't working. I have been there many times. So what if you have to start over. You stilled gain a lot of experience. Nothing was wasted.
You didn't say if you were using a number of glazes. If you are not happy with it. Then start again. Sometimes we can be our worse critic. Have a blessed day

:knuppel2: John, you are way too hard on yourself! I love the sky and the plane, in fact I think this is a great painting.
The only thing you could add is a bit of shadow colour on the landing gear. Other than that leave it alone.

John,

I wish I could do a painting that badly!  If there is anything seriously wrong with it, I cannot see it.  I have two pilots in my family that would love for me to paint a picture like that.

John, you have done a wonderful job on the plane. Hang it on the wall and enjoy looking at your lovely work.

John, you have a great painting    and should just
stop and hang it on your wall.  Then get working on another painting!

Another late arrival! Me...not the plane!  ;D   I am liking this painting very much John, I think you have been perhaps a bit over critical. I agree with Mea,  I should be so lucky to paint that badly. Seriously.  O0
