Title: Summer Vacation Over, Time to Paint!
Post by: liz on August 13, 2015, 07:11:52 PM

This is a work in progress on my new H frame easel.  The last of the grandkids started to school this week.  I should have time for art now!
This is my guest room converted into my art and music room/studio.
Actually I wanted you to see that if the kids come over there is a sofa bed to open up for them!
Anyway, I also wanted you to know I'm still around and checking up on you!  :)  (And almost forgot how to post!)

Hey, Liz.  Yippee, you are back!!!

Beautiful seascape.

Like the new easel.

Good to know you've got a spare bed if I ever need to spend a night in Honolulu.  Will trade you for a night in my guest cottage in Hauula.

I would love to get out to Hauula sometime.  My dad drove us from Kaneohe to the little green Hawaiian church on Sundays.  The one near the market.  Have you thought about painting that historic church?  You must live nearby there?

Of course, you can come anytime.  Once my sister couldn't get home because of flooding in her area and she and her husband popped in on us.

 Wouldn't it be something if we could get together and paint on the beach with MaryAnn?  The ocean colors are beautiful on her side of the island!  BTW, I like your new photo!

I love seascapes, but water is not easy to do.  This one is just practicing a wave on cardboard in monochromatic tones.  I've missed you guys, too!  :1hug:

Lovely to have you back in the fold again Liz.  We missed you.  Your seascape is spectacular and lucky you to have your own "studio".  It makes a difference instead of having to pack up and tidy every time you do a bit of art.  Keep  :painting: .  Lovely to see what you are doing.

Thanks, Liz.

There are two old Hawaiian churches, one next to 7/11across from Hau and one closer to Punalu'u

Hey....Hi there!!  Missed you, Liz.  Beautiful painting...good movement and color in the water, and I love your sky.
Lovely studio, and I'm glad you like your new easel.  Sure makes it easier with them.

MAL, it's the Malamalama O Keao church in Punalu'u. Quaint little Hawaiian-speaking church that seats 50 people.

:thankyou: Everyone, for the welcome back reception.  I'm always looking at PB, but usually to see who's drawing or doing acrylic painting mostly.  I don't do water color; pastels tickle my nose; I rarely do oil anymore. My days are cut short with exercising at the YMCA every day, ukulele on Fridays, a lot of writing for my blog 'God's Enduring Love' FYI I have over 500 posts on my blog, but no I didn't write them all and reblogged a lot. http://heulu.wordpress.com (http://heulu.wordpress.com)

You're right, Patricia.  I had a corner in the living room and used a small table easel. Having my own room and easel waiting for me are great motivators and I will surely do more  :painting:

Thanks so much for visiting 'God's Enduring Love', Natalie!  PTL!

Today was ukulele day and a pastor and his wife just left after having lunch with us.  BUT I will at least gesso a canvas and think about doing a sketch of a seascape.  I hope I can pick up my pace somewhat since I have an easel standing in my room calling me back!  :yippee: :painting:

Yes, Liz, I know exactly what church you mean.  The minister (died a few years ago) and his wife worked with me on some community projects.

RETTA AND VASU, thanks for your encouraging comments!    :)

I was mostly trying out a different kind of sky, playing around with perspective in the water.  The foam over sand was a challenge.  I almost regret spending so much time (a week) on a piece of cardboard!  The best thing is that acrylic is so forgiving and you can work and rework the paint as fast as it dries, unlike oils.  But I do like what can be done in oils so may return to them sometime.

MAL, I loved that little country church and knew the family really well.  The pastor, his son, his son-in-law pastored there.  I knew the daughter as a youngster, too!  I read an old news article that the church has fallen into serious disrepair.  I hope it will be preserved as a historic site.  If you haven't painted a church yet, this is a must do!  I'll email you the story.    Bet you're cooler than I am.  Changed my profile photo.  The closest I'll get to water is my pool!

Sure has been hot here, too, Liz.  But, yes, we have the advantage of the ocean breeze.  My studio has two nice windows on the ocean side of the house.  I spend a lot of time here.

Hi JAY!

I love my own 'space'!  I play my guitars here (Epiphone, Takamine, Alvarez) all classics 2 from my son who is a professional musician, 1 I bought from a friend for $100.  I am an amateur musician, just like my art-amateur and hobbyist.
Anyway, I play music when I'm thinking about what to draw or paint next.   :)
