Title: Pastel discoloration
Post by: Danielle123 on June 15, 2015, 03:20:46 PM
 I had made a few portraits of my mother in pastel 8 years ago and gave them to my siblings.  My question is, now that I see the pastel painting in there houses i see it  has discoloured a lot, to the point that even the red has dissapeared .  One had it near the window, the other said she did not have it near the window and both are damaged.  My pastels chalk were Alphacolor and sketcher's choise.  What is the reason, are my chalk not of good quality.
 :thankyou: For your help.

E-MAIL: info@alphacolor.com

I can't find any info on the other manufacturer. Send Alphacolor an email and ask them.

Danielle, I'm sure Dennis can offer some advice but when I do pastel work, I use fixative to protect my work.

I saw on the website that their gold standard products are lightfast-but they didn't say what level their pastels were.

I believe that is why artists are moving to one pigment colors so they can verify independently if the pigment is fugitive.

A good article for pastels:
