Title: Sherri's Scratch Board Art
Post by: Sherri on February 21, 2015, 08:19:23 PM
I wanted to try to use scratch board for something other than animals.  Here is my attempt.  I used a photo that I found on morguefile.  Any suggestions for improvements?

Sherri,

This scratchboard is great.  How clever of you to use people on it.

I love it.  Good for you!

I love doing the scratch board but love it when I add color to it.  I used a picture that my cousin took when he went on a safari.  Your thoughts please.

Sherri,

You are becoming the Queen of Scratchboard!  This jungle scene is pretty cool.  Lion's nose looks a little low on the right side and the eye on the right seems to form a triangular shape.  Maybe it is just the way the camera shows it, though.

I like it!

These two scratch boards were commissioned by the same client.  The cat, Smokey, is her son's who is in the Navy. She wanted him to have a picture of him that he could take with him.  The dogs, Tucker and Oscar are her husband's old dogs and he was so thrilled with them.  I have a little glare on the picture of the dogs.  It is hard to take pictures when they are under glass.  Any suggestions on how to resolve this problem?

Sherri,

Great job on both animal scratchboards.  The owners must be very happy with them.

:detective:   How odd....    It seems my posts didn't 'stick' on this thread! Let's just suffice to say that you are doing splendidly with your scratchboard Sherri.  O0 Really beautiful work here.

My source for scratchboard here shocked me last week.... the price had doubled! Still cheaper than Michael's, but what a hit! I was only able to get 4 8x10's to take back with me. Still practicing on the flexible stuff before I try one of the boat commissions. I'll be posing a few questions to Nolan on the scratchboard thread.... need to learn a few more techniques!  ;D

to reduce the glare take the photo from an angle, then fix the perspective in your drawing app

Sherry, It just popped again and I looked at your beautifull scratch board drawing and for the dog I was wondering if you could ground them.   they appear to be flotting.   hope you do not mind my saying so.

Sherri - you're the PB scratch board queen! These are adorable! And the only way to remove the glare is have someone hold the framed picture and tilt it down and away from them. Congrats on a great commission!

Danielle,  good suggestion - I will keep that in mind for the future.  The client already has the dogs!!  I am always looking for advice and/or suggestions.  That is the only way I can improve.  Thanks for taking the time to comment.

great job Sherri
I agree with extending the body to the edge. Next time you could fade the body out to the edge as well if you don't want to go to the edge O0

Thanks Nolan for the idea of fading out the body. I think I will definitely do that.  Appreciate you taking the time to comment and give me some ways to finish it off.
