Title: Postcard for my next show
Post by: Sacgal/Sharon on January 23, 2015, 03:08:18 PM

Hot off the presses, here's  the postcard (front is the painting, back is the writing) for my upcoming show Feb 14th at Capital Public Radio! The show is titled "Destinations - Transforming Vacation Photos into Art" and the art represents places I've visited locally, nationally and internationally.

They've sent out a few thousand of these to their members and will be emailing 20,000 electronic invitations as well.  There's also a press release that will be distributed to the media.  I'm going to host a private reception on Feb 12th since the 14th is Valentine's Day and I don't know how many folks will be gallery hopping that afternoon. Luckily,  I've already sold 3 pieces - nice to see red dots on those price tags in advance! I'll be donating 10% of the sales proceeds back to the nonprofit who's hosting this exhibit - they only do 4 a year so I'm feeling so honored. Wish me luck!!

Very professional Sharon, I love it. You certainly seem to be on your way in the art world, congratulations.
I wish I could be there to see the exhibit and chat with you about it.
Maybe one of these days.
Best wishes,
Brian

Thanks Zayn and Nolan - and a sell out would be fabulous, Nolan - but since the 14th is Valentine's Day I'm setting my expectations a bit lower...

Of course none of my success would be possible without PB...so grateful to you all!

They did, Robin - I just put two postcards together to create one photo to show PB the front (the painting) and the back (the wording.) Hope that makes sense!

Just got home from the preview reception for my art show and it was great! Had about 40 attendees and I've now sold 11 pieces! Really glad I did this event before the big show on Saturday - I guess they're expecting 150-200 people.  A couple folks from tonight are contemplating which painting they want to buy - so hopefully there will be more sales this weekend. Now I'm home and the high heels are off and it's time to rest.

How wonderful, Sharon, to have sold so many paintings before the show! You are only about an hour away from me and I love to get up there to see the show, but unfortunately my fibromyalgia has been in a flare and I'm not venturing out much these days. Maybe you could post some pictures of your show on this website for all of us to see, please? Wishing you the best of luck  :painting:

Thanks Mea, Robin, Sherri and Sue! And I agree Mea - I hate schlepping paintings home after a show - never enough space to hang them at home! Sue - so sorry about your fibromyalgia - I understand that's quite painful. Hopefully another time you can come by one of my shows - that would be amazing! And I'll definitely post photos after today's show - for now, here's one of me at the Preview Reception on Thursday, looking very nervous since the show was about to begin! (You can see the Crest, Sunrise Bridge and Tahoe paintings in the background!)

Last night's show was a HUGE success - and so much fun (and I had all of your support propping me up when I got nervous!!) About 250 people attended - Capital Public Radio said it was the most people they've ever had at one of their Second Saturday Art Shows! There was live music, wonderful food and wine and it was a gorgeous 74 degrees outside.I had the chance to address the audience for a few minutes to talk about my art, to promote the availability of prints for the paintings that had already sold, and to invite folks to ask me about painting THEIR vacation photos.  And then I sold another 5 pieces for a grand total of 16 for the show.

The most exciting sale was to our local Congressman Ami Bera, who was there with his wife, Janine. They purchased one of the limited edition giclee prints of my Sacramento Skyline painting that I did for Rotary last year. It will soon be hanging in his Washington DC apartment - what an honor!

Here are a few photos of the night - the first is the sign that greeted the guests, than one of my husband and me in front of his favorite painting, and one with my daughter in front of her favorite painting! I've also included one of the Congressman and his wife as well as a final photo with someone who purchased a giclee print of my painting of the Golden Gate Bridge.

Happy but exhausted today - will have to recharge and get back to work painting again.  And as always, there's no way any of this could have been possible without Paint Basket, Dennis, Nolan and all of you...thank you so much!

Thank you Mea, Nolan, Doina and Sally - and PB inspires me daily, Nolan!

On a side note, I've been mentoring this high school senior since November who normally paints in acrylics but had a senior project to learn to paint in a different medium. She chose watercolors. One of her goals was to complete a painting and display it in a second saturday show.  So after she created one (with a little guidance from me), I let her display it last night...and she sold it for $27! Nice to pay it forward after all of the support I've received from PB...

Congratulations, Sharon! I'm glad the show was a success! It seems there's so much involved and so much to know to even before you think of having a show.Starting from how to photograph your paintings and make giclees and getting everything framed, it's going be a long time before I have a show :D  How did you learn all this?

Reading all of these lovely comments brings tears to my eyes! Thank you all so much. And Patricia, I inclide everyone because everyone gives me such marvelous advice on how to improve my paintings which makes them of interest to buyers. Seriously, none of my success would have been possible without PB.  And the nerves are always inside me - I've just learned to mask them from others!

Sue - I used to be the premiere event planner in the Sacramento region so have a lot of experience throwing parties! Art shows are obviously a lot different than organizing the mayor's inauguration, but I use the same marketing techniques. Plus it helped that this show was at a radio station who advertised it a lot on air. And Ive always surrounded myself with the best people. I lucked out in finding a framer who can scan my paintings and create giclee prints that look like paintings as well as framing my paintngs so beautifully.

If anyone ever has an art show I'm always happy to help guide you through the process.

Sharon you have just given all the most important piece of advice there is.

This advice is not just for the Paint Basket, but for you wherever you are in the world. Who are your friends? Who are your mentors? If you want to improve then carefully choose your friends and mentors. They must be positive people. This is harsh, but you need to get rids of negative friends and acquaintances. This I learned many years ago and I apply it to my life. O0

Dennis: I'm so glad you agree with me about surrounding yourself with good people -  professionally and personally. I've spent the last 2.5 years removing toxic people from my life and I am much happier and healthier as a result.

Val: I just told my husband this morning that after today I must return to my painting - I miss it and I don't want to forget how! (And I think he's pretty cute, too!)

And Zayn, I couldn't ask for better travel companions than my Paint Basket family...so glad and proud we're sharing our painting journeys together..
