Pinuccia, two things I see that you need to fix. The bird that is in flight the eye is in the wrong place. Also what you could of done on the bottom was continue the sky and the post all the way done, instead of having that white at the bottom. But I still think you did good. Watercolor is fun to do isn't it?

Thank you Nina. I see what you mean about the eye.  I will fix that.  The other is just how I took the picture, I did take the sky to the end.  I am not a very good photographer. Thank you for your help much appreciated.

Nina have altered the eye.  Have I put it in the right place?  Do you think the head is too dark?  Can you see about the phtography !!!!!  :help:

Kedde,

Lovely swallows.

Old tree trunk looks so real.

Nice vibrant colors.

The clouds just under the swallow's wing to the right look too circular.  Look too much like doodles.

Nice job on the painting.  My suggestion for improvement would be to make the clouds more prominent.
Also the cracks in the wood could be darker.
I would suggest for you to study the reference photograph taking note to the highlights.
Hope this helps, these are just my opinions, im not the instructor, so if Dennis thinks you just need to add more highlights on the bird heads, than i would just do that.  I am new to watercolor painting, hope some experienced watercolor students can jump in and add their opinions.  This has helped me to spot areas of improvement.
Overall i think you did a great job with this class.

 :thankyou: For your comment Ilinca,
One other little suggestion would be to add tonal value on the right side of the trunck that will give you rounding and darken the knot in the trunck.  Hope this helps

A suggestion re the bird on the left: Take a little of the dark wing color on the left wing and flick it into the white, to create the fluffy white feathers in that area.

Very nice Doina,   You may also add some tonal value to the stump to give it rounding.

Sharron you also did a nice job on your swallows, somehow I mist it.

Super job on the framing Doina, you cut your own mats as well?

Thank you for your kind words.  :flowers: I have not done it yet, but next week a good friend (she is a retired professional framer) will teach me. At the Gallery we have the equipment and are allowed to use it. So from now on I will cut mines too.

Doina you will do great at mat cutting.  One tip is to keep you wrist locked when pressing the blade into the mat.
once you cut down, stop, don't move. Now, pull your arm back with your elbow right beside you.  A little practice and you'll not have curved corners.  :)

This technique works with manual mat cutters, you might access to a wizard system,   :)

A J

Great clouds.

Great birds - like angry birds. (Sort of like road rage in the bird world - imagine someone stealing your parking space - SUCH DRAMA)!

Fabulous wood grain on the post.

You get better with every painting.

After being sick with bronchitis and coughing for over 2 wks I needed to paint something.
So I have  attempted this lesson which i think is a beautiful reference photo that Dennis found for his students. It took a few days as my tablet wouldn't load all the lesson so had to go watch how to paint the 2nd swallow on my husband's computer take notes then go back and  finish it off which I did this afternoon.
Let me know if i need to  make any changes if I can  ::)

TeresaM,

I had started to comment on this yesterday but got sidetracked.  My problem is that I thought the bird was landing on a tr tree branch suspended in the air.  I went to the lesson and looked at the reference photo and then saw that it was really the bird's tail.

LOL - Now I see!

Lovely painting.Rich color in the blues.
