Natalie,

Love the sky, background mountains, and the tree on the left.  There's something about the rocks in the snow that looks odd.  Not sure why or even how to make it look better.

Natalie, lovely sky, mountains and the tree    What I am really missing is the dark embankment as this is what adds to the drama of the painting.

Mea....the title of the post is mountain stream...I know I didn't blow it that much.  ???

I went through my paints today and found my darkest umber.  Will give that a try later on Dennis-thank you!

I have made heaps of changes and decided I didn't like the final tree sticking out on the left so that's been removed.  Thank goodness for the fast fixer medium.....I've been using it on stuff I definitely want to keep and I'm really happy with my mountains (I have extra ones LOL)  so the tree covered them......I just used a wet sponge and wiped it off (the tree) and my mountains are still there just how I want them (phew)  I have a few more touches to do tomorrow and I should be able to post it.

I found the water the most challenging and still don't think I have the water right but hopefully Dennis or Nolan can offer advice once I post it.

Same here Jackie-that water was a PITA!  I thought I had it a few times, but I lost it again and again.  :P

Natalie as you probably know I use Atelier Interactive and I just happened to watch this on Youtube on yesterday morning before I started painting.  Atelier Fast Medium Fixer Demonstration Barry McCann (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U9s8TuEtaqA#ws)  I thought well I have bits I like so I can use it (as I had some here) and hopefully I won't do my usual stuff up today (ever noticed that always happens just near the end  :2funny: :2funny: )  Anyway, I did and I just used a wet paper towel or two and just wiped off the bits I messed up in like 1 minute!

I am going to use this with every stage of my painting now, especially at the end of the day when I tend to sneak back in and do "just one little bit here" aka  "I have screwed this up stage"  :2funny: :2funny:

Uploading mine as soon as I get it off the camera

I found this quite challenging (partly because I changed it a little from the original sketch that Dennis had (some call it artistic license, I call it oops I have an extra mountain range but I kinda like it there)   :2funny: I also tried to stay more true to the photo from a water point of view as I have many mountains and streams and pine plantations near me here that I want to try to plein air.

I am pretty happy with how it came out but I did find when I tried to put the tree in on the left that because I had changed the overall perspective of the painting that it didn't work.....so at the moment I think it still need something on the left side (hubby suggested a fisherman LOL)  I like to think of myself as a bit of a landscape artist so really enjoyed this and I am going to paint it again soon as I want to get the stream more like Dennis had it as this is not chopped up enough....but I think it still works.

Thank you Natalie.....I'm going to paint a few tree studies to see if I can paint something I think is suitable on there.  The tree I had just didn't work...but thank goodness for the fixer as I just wiped it off. I do love landscapes!  :painting:

Hi Natalie,
I like your stream, but IMO, you have too much whitewater and not enough blue water. Your painting looks a bit lopsided and off balance.
Now then, that's just one mans humble opinion.  ;)

 :yippee:   There it is!!!!   :yippee:

I like your extra mountain range, love the sky!  O0 I like the overall look of this, but I think if you could break up the white of the fall/rapids(?) a little bit it would make this fantastic.  :heeha:   Just an idea to boot about.....

Well done, great job.

Challenging to say the least!!!!!!!

I added a 'happy accident'  of a struggling tree  on the
cliff to off set the length of the water fall flow.

Sherri you have made a great painting, love the perspective, beautifull water fall.
Louisa, you to did a very nice painting. Good perspective.  Nothing wrong with the water.   Just one little thing at the base of the pine trees on the left you have a straight band ,, you may want to mix it into the trees.

This is my version of the mountain stream. It was a really good lesson. It's painted on a loose canvas sheet 45x60 cm, 18x24 in.

Nice work, Sarlota.  Good depth in the mountains.  Great trees.

The water looks cold and refreshing.

Thank you Patricia. Realism is the reason why I like acrylics too.
When I try to paint watercolour abstract painting, I always end up realistic and then go back to acrylics.  :P
When I'm grown, in arty way, I will take all the oil painting classes and try to paint hyperrealistic flowers. That's my dream.
