Title: What to leave out?
Post by: ArtByG on May 29, 2014, 08:30:23 AM
I have to paint this beautiful baby. I know I'll leave out all the clutter part of the background, but I don't know whether to paint the walker or leave it out. All comments appreciated.

Georgie,

What a cute baby.  As for the walker, you really need something for his hands to rest on - maybe make it less multi-colored.

Will look forward to seeing what you come up with.

This one might be my undoing, Mea. My paints aren't wanting to cover my grid lines. Those little fingers are going to drive me nuts. I can't quite get that beautiful baby skin tone, and I'm stressing already. I think I need to move this discussion to the encourager section because I'm sure going to need encouragement on this one.  ???

Georgie,

I'm sure between all of us, we'll get you through it.

I've never used grid lines because I didn't know how I would get rid of them.

Don't panic, baby's skin tone isn't any more difficult than adults skin tone, you just have to add more white.
For the yellowish parts I would start with yellow ochre and loads of white, for the reddish parts I would start with the burnt sienna and loads of white.

And yes, please paint the walker too?

Thanks, Germa. For some reason I felt that I should add a touch of pink to my usual skin color. Came up with a lovely greyish, lavender color. Too bad that wasn't the color I wanted. I'll take your advice and use my usual skin tone.
