Cyril,

Good bird you have there.  It's hard to draw something and have it facing sideways.  You pulled it off very convincingly.

Jill,

Love your dikkop drawing.  I've never seen one before.  It has legs like the plovers that visit us in late winter.

I've never tried drawing a bird from the backside.   You did a great job.

Just unsure of what is behind it (or in front, as the case may be).

I love it - reminds me of my plover.

Love how you did the angled eye.

This is so very good.

Thanks Danielle and Mea! And I'm almost all packed - just missing toiletries and my painting materials. Finishing up a watercolor which I'll post tomorrow. Taking cabo to the dog sitter tomorrow. Getting very excited for our trip to maui!

Keep us posted on what's happening on Maui!!  I'm sure you'll find lots of great scenes to paint.  I did an oil of the Iao Needle.  Check that site out.

:thankyou: Mary Lou, Natalie and Val! And Val - I would have packed my painting gear first but I had to finish a watercolor painting before we left - just posted it to the forum! And the painting gear will most likely need to go into my husband's suitcase because I know I'm bringing way too many pairs of shoes!!

Mea - I'll look into the Iao Needle. A friend wants to commission me to paint a picture of a maui beach at sunset with palm tress - your speciality! It's for a wedding gift for her sister-in-law. I'll be snapping lots of photos for her to choose as her reference - I may need to come to you for advice on that piece! Mahalo in advance!!

What a cute little critter.  Nicely drawn.  Love the eye - bright and bold.

You and I need to take a twig-drawing class.  I have the same problem.

Seems we have been absent for a while again, especially when I see changes in avatars and studios on the move  8)

Ryan is back to pen and ink and seems to have an interest in sketching the birds - the feathered variety, he's still too young for the others.   ;D This is his latest attempt - he is also now doing them all freehand. Said his standing curlew was off centre so he moved the sitting one over, presumably using his imagination.

Wow, Ryan.  You are really getting good.

Not susre if it's because he is sitting, but the sitting bird looks too wide at the bottom. (I do, too, but that's another story.)

Keep up the good work.  Your drawing has really improved.
