    Jennylynn, a lovely job on the Aloes.  You also did the rocks so well. Mine look like sand dunes.  I must definitely practice painting more rocks.  However, I haven't a very dark brown in the set of pastels but I will purchase a single one for sure.  Thanks for the comments Jennylynn.   Patricia

Well I managed to do it. Here are my aloes in the semi-desert!!! Got trouble with the masking tape at the bottom and the pastel didn't hold off but not much, so be careful everybody when sticking the tape, make sure it is really attached to the paper.

Wonderful jobs for aloes in the past days and congratulations for an excellent job to everybody.

Cheers

Well here is my Aloes.  I gave it ago I tend to avoid flowers and plants with painting but thought better than to skipping it.  Many years ago a friend taught me a little bit of Folk Art and was told it will teach me good brush control of course it was flowers flowers and more flowers later on I understood her reasoning but at the time I really wanted to do w/colour Looking forward to the huts please if there is correction to be made I would appreciate any advice

Back from a week away to Chicago - always good to take a class to get those painting fingers back in shape! Here's my next attempt at the pastels - looking foreword to graduating to the pastel pencils - should be a lot cleaner...and I have to say I loved what Dennis said at the end of the class - that learning pastels (or any other medium) will make me a better painter in my preferred medium, which is watercolor...thanks, Dennis!

Thank you very much Ncwren, Bellarina,Dennis,Mea and Sally. I am lucky to have found  Paint Basket. I viewed everybodys paintings of the same subject. It is amazing that all of us watched the same lesson and have created our own interpretations. Explanations are very detailed in the videos, so we can get instant results and i hope it prepares me to do my own paintings in the future.

Selen,

I think we can all attest at the remarkable progress we have made in our art skills since joining paint basket.  I had absolutely no skill or interest in art until just less than two years ago.  Now it's all I want to do.

Taking the drawing classes was the biggest help as I had never drawn anything.  Now I feel more confident painting because I can shape things free hand.

Stay with us.  Nolan and Dennis are amazing and the PB members are the best group of people I have ever known.

My 200gsm paper seemed to fight against me in this one as I struggled to cover the white paper.  Perhaps softer pastels would have helped?  It looks ok from viewing distance though  ;D

Carey,

Lovely, lovely aloe!  Well blended.

See, I told you that you would getting better with each attempt.  The aloes show your progress.

I have never really attempted pastels, well except once with some 20 year-old hard pastels I found stored away.  Yikes, what an experience that was.  So, I cannot address whether the paper or the pastels gave you a bad experience on this one.

Not really able to see that you struggled.  Looks effortlessly done.

I really like the shadows on the rocks and their shapes. Aloes are magnificent, although, I'd suggest a little bit more darks at the center of the plant, where the sun finds difficult to light the leaves. Congrats on this one!!

Hello Everyone!

You cant live in South Africa and not paint aloes so I thought i would give this one a bash. Fun to step away from the wild wetness of watercolour into something more direct and assertive! I like the light I achieved in this but I overworked the aloes cacti too much and would have preferred to have had individual cactus "leaves" like Dennis has in his. It just became a bit overly simplified i think. Also muddied up the horison "pinky" part by accident a teeny bit.

Could always be better, but what a blast of fun!

Thanks Dennis and Nolan!

Thanks Mal your kind words have always kept me motivated to keep trying since the beginning! Thanks Pat, the news on the scholarship left me completely humbled and gobsmacked at the same time. A real honour and privilege that I plan to take full advantage of  :heeha: :heeha: :heeha:!!

Win i must say i enjoyed that too. As im sure you know my obsession with watercolours is insane but once I start with other mediums i enjoy it just as much. When i do art, i get this happy buzz in my head and all my issues disappear. Im sure you get the same! Quite unlike anything ive ever experienced before.

Thanks Dennis and Val! Where would any of us be without your guidance and advice? Dazed and confused somewhere!  :2funny: :2funny:

Have a great evening/morning/afternoon ahead wherever you may be!

Cheers
