Post by: dennis on August 08, 2013, 11:45:24 PM
In order for me to easily find and answer queries about this Lesson I will appreciate it if everyone will keep these  to this specific Lesson Posting only. This will also be of benefit to you as well in the future.  Thanks

Download the template

http://courses.paintbasket.com/handouts/watercolours-lesson69-acrylic-watercolour-template-instruction.pdf (http://courses.paintbasket.com/handouts/watercolours-lesson69-acrylic-watercolour-template-instruction.pdf)

PS
You may do the Lesson in watercolours if you do not have acrylics - only state that your posting is "watercolour only".

Pretty Jennylynn!!, great job.
Mine turned into a semi-abstract ??? . Oh well, I was just glad I could keep up with Dennis without a hair dryer ;D . This is watercolour only .....

Semi abstract?  Well maybe just on the right side but that's ok.  It allows those beautiful rocky steps to be the focal point.  I really like how the light shines on them.  Well done!

Your painting has a dreamy atmosphere.   :smitten:

Two great Paint-a-longs    each with their own character O0

Remember that those taking part in the paint-a-long don't know what I will be doing with the template. They don't know what colours I will be using. I know exactly what I will be doing so I have the edge on them. Another thing is that they have to very quickly make decisions as they follow me - not an easy thing to do. Worst of all is that they have to watch me and at the same time do their own painting - not an easy feat.

Can you see why I have great respect for all who do the paint-a-longs? Can I challenge more of you to be brave enough as well?

Woke up this morning and decided to check in, and lo and behold, 2 EXCELLENT paint-a-longs already!!  I had to leave class early, but from what I did see, I thought this was a pretty difficult lesson. Great job Jenny and Denise!

I quite agree Dennis, I am following all your previous lessons but I watch them through first then paint along with you but I stop and start and rewind all the time.  I have great respect for anyone who can paint along live.  Great paintings Jenny Lynn and Denise, I love the diferent interpretations.

DENNIS:

Qu:  I'm watching the replay and  you may have answered this in the part I have not seen yet.

Could / would wetting the paper prior to painting help keep the pains (oops)  PAINTS workable longer.

I hope to have a place to paint ready very soon and am going to use my Acrylics!!

P.S.  I have missed you all and am very glad to see Dennis back with us!!

PPS At about 37 minutes in all of a sudden there appears a very woeful looking doggy in the painting.Clear by 37:36  ;D ;D    Whats very funny is once you "see" it .... you can not "not" see it :2funny: :2funny: :2funny:

Title: Re: LESSON #69 - Acrylics as watercolours

Brian. wet only the section where you want colours to merge into oneother, for example the very deep shadows on the right of this painting - no water to the left of it as you want the edge of the embankment to be a sharp edge.

In a painting you need to have soft and hard (lost and found) edges, with more hard edges at the focal point. One should not have any hard edges at the edges (pun intended) of the painting. If you have any, then soften them slightly.

BTW  good to see you back

Wow....great pics, Jenn and Denise.  I'm so in awe that you can 'paint along'. I've 'attempted', but by the time I get the hair dryer finished, Dennis is wayyyyy ahead of me.  LOL
I like your colors on both pictures....it gives a different perspective of the whole.

Wow, Harold.  It really does look like a watercolor painting.

I've never tried acrylics.  Do you add water to them just like you do watercolor paints?

If that's a PB lesson, what is its name.  I want to give it a try.

Hey Brian, we miss you in here, hope everything works out and you join in again.
Val, Lillian, Patricia and mea, many thanks for your encouraging comments.
mea, to acrylic paint you often use water as medium. Here was the task to paint with acrylic as if it were watercolours so here are the colours thinned more than usual.

This is one of the few classes that I missed!  I just purchased it, and wanted to download the PDF. It says "PDF to Follow".  Has anyone else recieved this message, or were you able to download the PDF?  Maybe it has "disappeared"?  I'll chack back again in a few days to see if it's shown up!
I love all the paintings posted here!  Great job all -  :congrats:

I have just checked it and it's there and loaded perfectly.

I think I prefer painting watercolor as watercolors vs acrylics! Got a bit heavy handed with my masking fluid so my weeds are a bit thicker than they should be.  And you're right, Dennis - it definitely looks a lot better further away than close up!

Here is my version of this class..... very interesting exercise to do, I am still not sure about acrylics as a medium for me. I found that the inability of the paint to blend once dry really frustrating, although on the plus side it did stop me from fiddling  :2funny: Mind you layering colours on top of each other was interesting - you never knew what you'd get!!

Some of the colours are a little stronger than I would have liked, but it is all down to my inexperience with acrylics. Might have to have another go at this one in watercolours or maybe pastels  :)

As always comments, crits and suggestions are most welcome

Cheers

Love the warm, glowing tones.

Hard to tell, though, if the steps descend to sand or very shallow water.  Which?

Regardless, it is lovely.  Love the shapes of your stones.  That's always a big challenge for me.

I know this is a very old posting... but it got me thinking.

Pushing oneself to do this would be most difficult,  but I think it may be most valuable leaning experience.  Whatever the painting outcome is, it would teach much.

I will do this... even if I don't post the result.  Thanks Dennis ☺
