After two days I've fininshed the christmasballs/reflections from day 4.  :) I'm really happy with them and think that they look fine.
 Unfortunately the scan made them brownish and took out all the light colour :tickedoff: My camera did a little better but still doesn't show all the light pencilmarks :-\
The only white in the balls are the light spots in the last three balls, all the other white is pencil 2H.
What do you think? :-\ :)

Nolan, thanks to your lessons about grip, how to hold your pencil, I can draw much longer :yippee: Normaly I just have to stop after 30 / 45 minutes, but now I can work more than 1 1/2 hours in one session :smitten: Now I know how to hold my pencils correct, I've less pain and can hold my pencil much longer  :thankyou:  :thankyou:  :flowers:

Wow!  Rita!  You've done a fantastic job on your Christmas balls!  They look very good to me.   :congrats:

I'm so happy for you, that you can draw longer now that you've seen the various ways we can hold our pencil.   :yippee:

I'm  :cheering: you on.

I didn't do this lesson.     I thought I would skip it as I went to a class where we spent the whole evening drawing spheres, balls, cones and other shapes under a strong lamp.

Hmmm, it wouldn't hurt me to go back and do this one.

Your compliment makes me happy  :smitten: and they give me more confidence. This was the first time that little :nono: :tickedoff: voice didn't show up and disparaged what I was drawing. I had so much fun especially when I saw that it wasn't all that bad.

Lillian and C, thank you for this great compliment :cloud9:

Two drawings that I forgot, but I'm just started with the berries, so for that drawing, you still have to wait a few days.
For now the treedrawing before the course....I told you I can't draw a tree :2funny:
And the penciltonalchart I made. Unfortunatelly the chart doesn't look so black as I made it after laminating :tickedoff: But I think it still is good and will help me today and tomorrow with my berries.

:urwelcome: Tony, I was fun to make the chart and it helped a lot with my berries.
Lillian, Val and Dianne,  :thankyou: :thankyou: :thankyou: so much for your lovely and great comments :1hug: :flowers:

Today I was almost the whole time busy with my berries, I can draw already much longer in one session then before. It really helps changing my grip every now and then. My schoulder, wrist and fingers don't hurt as much and the stiffnes after drawing is becoming less. I really enjoy drawing again to the full and now I recieve all these great, beautiful and encouraging comments it's worth everything, this is such a great reward and a great boost :thankyou:

Hope you like it.

Oana, Val and Tony, thank you so much fore your comments. I'm still confused from the former great comments, and now I recieve new wonderful comments from the two of you. :1hug: :flowers:
I don't think I'll ever get used to it . almost 50 years family and ex-husband told me 'you are no good' and after a while I start to believe them.
My new partner told me that I can do what ever I want, I had to believe in myself. Your compliments, and those from all the others in this great family, show me, that I CAN draw and paint, and that my drawings and paintings look good.
I'm very happy with my new family, with your comments, compliments, support and encouragements.

Nolan and Lynn, Thank you so much for your lovely comments  :flowers:  :1hug: :flowers:
I'm getting really addicted to drawing, again. I always loved to draw, and I'm convinced that it even kept me alive in the past. But now I really, really LOVE drawing, I love learning all the techniques and practice, practice, practice. I never thought practice could be so addicting, so much fun and the results looking great too.

So, YES Nolan, Im very, very happy with my drawings :yippee: :cheering: :cloud9: :cheering: :yippee:
It's the best medication against the pain and depressions, and after I finished my drawing I have this beautiful piece of art, made by myself. I'm still thrilled by giving myself this course for my birthday, it was the best ever idea I have had in my live.  :cheering: :cloud9: :cheering:

I just finished my Rocks,  :yippee: and I really like them :smitten:
Now I only have to buy some new pencils  This was a real challenge to get all the planes right, but I loved this exercise. I really loved to draw the play of light on the rocks.

Rita--I Love  your rocks.  You really captured all the little chiseled areas and I know how hard this is from having struggled with it . I especially like all the little rocks you embedded. So glad that this is greatly uplifting for you.  This site really gives one a lift .   You are an inspiration to keep going on this class.  I too need different pencils.  I bought some pencils that aren't the same numbers as Nolan suggests and I think I can't get the subtle tonal challenges out of them (the set just skipped some of the numbers like H etc )  I'm always spending money at the ARt store.  I think I have my own basket assigned to me now  :D   Keep it up Rita!!

Lynn, Val, Sharmila and Nina,  :thankyou: so very much for all the lovely and encouraging comments.  :1hug:
It is a real boost to go on and a very great reward for the pleasure I find in drawing. :smitten:

I started with the drawing of Nolan, but switch to the black and white photo, because I loved all the detail in it. And the longer I drew, the more detail I saw. Especially the play of the sun I love and tried to draw that as beautiful as in the photo.
I like the strong light and dark in the photo and made it even stronger in my drawing by put in the dark background.

Thank you  again for your lovely comments.

Bravo

You are such an inspiration.  I think I'm going to slow down and take more time to get it everything just right after seeing your work.  Actually I think I'm going to end up doing most of my drawing on the weekends.  The last two days full time at work have been very tiring and the physio really put me through my paces today. Still have a ways to go before I can throw my crutch away  :( Anyway, its been really nice to read all your posts and get inspiration to keep going.

Your persistence certainly paid off, it's an awesome drawing Rita  :heeha:

Why you battled with the tray is because it is a bowl. You need to get those angles 100% or it will look wonky. Your angles are great - that took very close observation so I am on :cloud9:
Title: Re: Rita's Drawings
Post by: Riya on August 26, 2012, 10:35:36 PM
Thank you Nolan, :flowers: for your encouraging comment, I'm happy that my little tray did come out fine.  :smitten: It was indeed a struggle to get the angles good, and I had to start all over many times, but I'm happy that I did, it looks good and shiny.

Hi everyone

I've just finished my teddybear, and I loved it to do. I still find hatching difficult, and I had to start all over again a few times, but I'm happy with the final drawing.  :smitten: The little teddybear with her blanket is handmade by myself. She's only 6,5 cm high and one of the smaller bears I've made. The smallest one was only 3 cm and was a present for a friend.

I loved the idea to put her in front of the hatched teddybear, and draw her just on the right spot, leaning against the foot of her big brother. Hatching her was a little scarry because she is so tiny, but I love how it turned out. :smitten:

It's really much appreciated and it's a real boost to go on and rewarding the struggle and problems that are  :flight: by.
It was soo much fun, not only to hatchNolan's cute teddybear, but trying to draw that little teddy with her blanky was a challange and fun. She looks so sweet amongst my other bears and I thought she deserved a spot on a drawing. It was the first time I draw one of my bears, normaly I'll make photo's when they are finished. So, maybe I'll give it a go with the others too.

Your great comments give me the courage to try more than I ever thougt I would dare,  :thankyou:  :thankyou: .

Rita, you put me to shame doing all those wheels and charts.

I'm so negligent where that's concerned.  I should get right down to the nitty-gritty.

I'm taking a color theory course at the college in October.  Hopefully that will force me to be doing what I should be doing.

Wow Rita

Your teddy bears are so cute! I love the way you've added extra stitching detail to big brother.  O0 I guess that being a bear-maker yourself, you know just how to add it in.  Does the little one have a name?

I've still got a little bear kit that I bought in Germany, must have been back in 2005. He's supposed to be about 15cm high and thats already tiny! Only got as far as stitching part of the head and the front then got busy with other things.  I should dig that out again sometime.  Hmm, wish I had more time for my creative side.  So much to do, so little time...  :D

I can't wait to see what you do with the fish.

Btw everyone, I've been walking around the office without my crutches today  :yippee: Still not very agile, and can't manage stairs properly, but I'm getting there.   ;D

:yippee: :congrats: :cheering: Good for You, Sharmila, just take care and don't  and  :run: the stairs up and down or you  get :injured: again . I'm really happy for you that you are able to walk without crutches, just don't overdo. :nono:

Thank you, Sharmila for your lovely comment, it's much appreciated  :flowers: :1hug:
No, this little bear still doesn't have a name yet, but because she is so tiny I've thought of Penny, but I'm not sure so...anybody ???? I do have some more kids too, the most for small bears between 5 and 12 cm, and some bigger bears.

For my Dollshouse that I'm putting together, I need to make them smaller than 3 cm, but I supose 4 cm will be fine too. I've painted some small paintings for my Dollshouse too, but they are still to big, 6 x 9 cm.

Nolan, Val and Dianne  :thankyou: :thankyou: :thankyou: for your nice comments.  :flowers: I had much fun doing both bears, and I'm starting to get grip on this hatching. So, I'm in for some more :2funny:

I finished my Goldfish but started too small :-\ so I had to fill in all the empty space and scambled and scribbled some plants, some small fish and shells and also did some hatching, I used some of the rocks from Nolan's photos from day 8. I finaly succeeded in hatching light rocks, ....but I'm afraid these are too light :-\ :smitten:

It was fun, but maybe I make a new one, a little bigger so I can practise this scumble and scribble a little better and more.

:thankyou: so much, Dianne and Lillian for your lovely comments :flowers: . It was fun scumble all those plants, and go for an other try on the rocks. Hatching on smaller objects looks fine but scumbling on small parts :tickedoff:   very difficult, or I should have sharpened my pencils every few strokes :2funny: :2funny:.

I used the 8 and the stars for the goldfish and plants, and some zigzags. And they do fit perfectly in these scene. The plants where really easy to make this way, no fine details and hours work, just a few minutes scumbling. :smitten:

What time is it at your place, Dianne and Lillian? Here it's 14.10 and I had already lunch, well....breakfast for Dick because he starts his day after noon when I'm already up for 4 hours.  :)

Natalie, C, Anki, Sharmila and Nolan,  :thankyou: :thankyou: :thankyou: all so much for you lovely comments. I'm happy that my drawing turned out this way.  :yippee:

I was afraid, after starting to small, that this little guy would become to dark and the scumbling wouldn't be noticed. It was indeed very hard to practice scumble on this little goldfish. First I thought to start all over, but he looked so lonesome, that I changed my mind and made him this nice place to live.  :heeha:

And I like it to see what is possible just with scumble and scribble, and ofcourse doodle what I do every now and than. Never thought of making drawings, other than Zentangle's or Mandala's, with these little patterns.

:smart: Nolan, thank you so much for this great drawing course  , it's much fun and I really do learn so much and try things that I never did before O0 And most of all, I see progres in my drawings, and improvement in my drawingskills. But what I really appreciate is that I'm no longer scared of trying to go my own way, put in something of my self. For the first time in my life I have more self-confidence, all of you, PBfamily, tell me time after time that I can draw, that I can paint and that it looks good too O0 and that's a great gift. Thanks to PaintBasket and it's great, warm loving family   :flowers: :flowers: :flowers:

Thank you Pat, for your nice comment.  :flowers:

It's because the goldfish ended up so small and there was so much white, empty space left, I just had to fill in. And with scumble and scribble I could make these plants, much more easier and faster than drawing all the plants :) . I also wanted to make some more rocks, just to practice finding planes and values, and now this little guy can hide behind them. You never know when those Neon Tetra's start to chase him  :2funny:

I, myself , was really surprised that it looked so cute, I thought I start again with a bigger goldfish, but for now I'm more than happy with this cute vissie. :smitten: :yippee:

Hi Scott , thanks for your nice comment, it's much appreciated :flowers:
I always liked drawing a lot, but now I've learned all these new skills, I just love it so much and I'm able now to draw longer at one session than before. This course was surtainly the best ever, that I could have joined.  :smart: Dennis and  :smart: Nolan did an amazing job with this, and it's absolute great that they share it with us.    O0

I finished my barn and because I liked the little story from Dennis, about the farmer who might have bin selling vegetables in the past, I decided that this farmer still does. :) To be honest, it is very busy at this barn with the chickens and al the things you can buy. Pumpkins, egg's, apples, cowl, rye, grain, herbal-plants and anything else this farmer has. :2funny:
Hope you all enjoy my little barn, I do and I really loved it to put in all the details and making-up this little story. :smitten:

Sharmila, Lillian, C and Mary,  :thankyou: :thankyou: :thankyou: .

Your lovely comments are appreciated and I'm really happy that you liked my little story.  :smitten: :flowers: It was so much fun, I only got a little  :parachute: carried away but everytime there turned up something new, that just had to been drawn. :2funny: :idiot2:

This is something I loved to do when my children where toddlers, starting with a simple small drawing and together with them I made up a (bedtime)story. My drawingskills then where not great, but especially my daughter loved the stories, even more when I start tell them. She loved it because I had different voices for every character on the drawing/story.

Nina, Lillian and Sharmila, thank you for your lovely and encourage comments.  :flowers:

Nina, and Lillian, you are so right, life is so short and I try now not to think too much of those things. I feel sorry for Joshua, Emma and Benjamin.
Lillian, I loved all the different textures from the drawing course so I just had to put this one in. I only had to take care not to sneeze before I rubbed in on to the drawing. And ofcourse take care not to go over it with my hands or shirt, what unfortunataly did happen a few times :(
Sharmila, it took me almost a week to finish this one, every time a small part and than something else needed my attention. And I had a few bad days so drawing was slowing down, but I also managed to make some other sketches.

I will up-load them, I just had to practise crosshatching and I think it's going better by every new drawing.
Title: Re: Rita's Drawings

Some drawings I did after some of the daily lessons, this is so much fun and a great way to practise hatching and shading, tonals and drawing freehanded.
A pear done after I finished the Christmas balls.

This little box I made years ago, and on top a little jar, with some acrylic medium. This still life I made after I had finished the mug.

An other still life I did, with some dried flowers, a pear and a rusty tin. Done after I finished the barn, it took some time, so I not only made the candles this week, but also finished this still life.

And my last drawing I just finished, a onion. Practicing drawing cirkels freehanded, think it's going better.

You certainly are on a roll at the moment Rita  :heeha:

The Kour still life - what is bother you are the bases of the candles. All else is fine. What you want to do is get the bottom rounding of the base, where it meets the table, round and symmetrical - at the moment they curve upwards to one side.

Nolan, you are right, I can't seem to get the bases right, I've started already three times again with them, but they stay crooked. I'll try to fix them, thank you for your advice. Now making adjustments is my next challenge because of the texture I've made on the table.

Hi Rita  :)

I've finally managed to settle  :D my mind enough to start on the still life and now I see why you had a problem with the base of the candle holders because I ran into the same thing  :-\ What helped in the end was to lightly put down lines of the axes of symmetry.  So one long vertical line running up the candle and candle stick, which will help mirror the symmetry, then short lines for the long axis of the ovals at right angles to the main axis. Then your ovals automatically line up but you can still change how 'fat' they are to take into account the changing eye level. I still have to do the second candle holder but I think I've got it now.  Then all the shading will probably keep me busy for the rest of the weekend.  :painting:

Thanks for setting such a great example with your enthusiasm for drawing. You set a very high standard to keep up with  O0

We're taking a long weekend next weekend on a farm in the orange-producing area (Clanwilliam/Citrusdal) north of Cape Town :yippee: That's good motivation to try to push on through the drawing course so I can tackle  :fight: some farm scenes with confidence. Will make sure to take camera along for reference pics.

I just started today with the squirrel, because the Church is not quite my favorite.  :2funny: Somehow the angles don't look right and every time I measure one line on the photo and doubble it on my paper, the second time I measure that same line, just to check, it has a different lenght, as the thirt, fourt and so on, time:tickedoff: . I've started three times all over again, and every line is correct by measuring...but still my Church looks  :hammer: :banghead:

So, for the moment the Church has to wait :coffee: , I'll spend some time on that cute squirrel.  :smitten: I hope you can finish your still live this weekend, I'm looking forward to see it.
And for next weekend I'll wish you allready lots of fun, hope you can take many beautiful photo's and don't eat too many oranges. Enjoy your stay at the farm, I'm sure it's very inspirering and you go back home with loads of new ideas.

Lillian, thank you for your encouraging comment  :flowers: . I took a look at your church, O0 it looks awesome.

And looking at mine...it looks out of balance, but after measuring again, it just have to be right, maybe it is because you looking up at the church, I don't know. I have drawn some more lines and it starts to look a little better. I think I have to go on till I finaly can start put in al the tones. But for the moment it looks not right, hopefully just an optical illusion.

I'll switch between the church and the squirrel, so it stays fun and I get my church done. Thanks, Lillian sometimes we need someone who :knuppel2: :tickedoff: and :cheering:  :gl2: to us, so we don't give up.

Have a nice sunday.

Rita, I think I measured a few thousand measurings on the church.

It amazed me that the width of a pencil line could end up making a huge difference.

It was a challenge, but I'm here to say it can be done!

I felt sorry for the skinny squirrel from Nolan and Dennis, so I send him on holiday to the Netherlands to fatten up. As you can see he likes the  Dutch acorns and fir-cones. When he is fat enough I will send him back.

:thankyou: Nolan for you quick reply, the Dutch squirrel is a drawing I've made some years ago, I used it so I could finaly give her some fur.

I made some adjustments to my candlebases, not much but it looks a little better. Unfortunatally I smudge the speckles on the table. That was a bigger challenge then change the candlebases, not smudging the graphitescrapes.

The first try on the candles

The revised candles

Oh Rita, Rita, Rita--The squirrel drawings are my favorite of yours so far.  Very well done and the squirrel world I am sure thanks you for representing them so well  :2funny: Diversity is a beautiful thing.  Can't quite see what its at their feet, but I assume foliage and nut remnants etc.  You have opened up a whole new vista for those of us in the Drawing class!

:thankyou:  :thankyou: :thankyou: Tony, Lynn, Natalie, Pat, Sharmila and Leana for your wonderful comments :smitten: :flowers: It was so fun to draw these two squirrels, I think it's one of my best drawings till now and not only from the course.

The little fat squirrel was in my sketchbook for years, just as a simple, plain linesketch. So when starting with the squirrel from the course, I just had to draw her, my own squirrel, and now she has nice warm, thick shiny fur. The squirrels her are auburnbrown with dark brown tails, they are really very beautiful.

Thank you again, for your engouraging comments. Nolan, thank you for your comment and advice. I knew there still was something wrong. I'll try to fix the right candle without smudging too much :)

Lillian and Scott, thank you so much for your fantastic comments. :) :flowers:

I just love how the squirrels look and it was such a fun to make these two little friends. Normaly I'm absolutely not patient enough, but now I sit and make flicks for hours, just to get that shine on the squirrels.

Lillian, I'm still busy with measuring the church and I think it finaly start to look O0 , but it's :2funny:  that every time I get different measurements. And as you said, that small pencilpoint on the photo makes a great difference in the drawing. But at least I didn't give up...for now...I still have to fill in all the details ...

Thank you Val, :flowers: for your lovely comment on the squirrels and the Koru, I had so much fun drawing the squirrels and the Koru was a challenge.
I just finished the church, after hundreds of measurments I think it looks right, and now I did this one on a scrap paper with a testprint on the backside  :tickedoff:. All the former tries I´ve made on good drawingpaper, and they all looked after a few lines allready terrible, so I decided to use some scrap paper and try it again.
:2funny: AND NOW THIS ONE TURNS OUT LOOKING RIGHT!!! :envy:

Now I have to copy this drawing to my D&R drawingpaper and transform it to a church build out of sandstone.

The church looks great Rita.     I know what you mean about redrawing...I did the barn in my sketchbook instead of the larger paper. Probably why it turned out a bit squished looking.  ;D  Every attempt to redraw it since then just doesn't look right. So...I might not have a full size one for my brag book!   :D  Nah, I'll get a good one..at some point!   ;D

:thankyou: :thankyou: :thankyou: Val, Natalie, Lillian and Scott for your nice comments.  :flowers: :flowers: :flowers:
I can't say I loved doing this, or that it was fun  :tickedoff: :hammer: but it was something to try. And I did want to finish it, but it's not something I will use often, too much timeconsuming, and the stress... :banghead: :pullhair: . Ofcourse I'm very glad that the church looks good, but for the moment it stays as it is, I have enough of measuring and lines.

Val, I hope too I'll get the church right in one try when redrawing it, I don't want to think about messing up and start all over again, and again...  I just do it on the slow way, just like this drawing, every day some bricks and hopefully ad the end of the yaer my church is readdy :2funny:

So, to do something totaly different than straight lines and measuring, I draw the llama from day 10, the teddybear lesson. This was fun, all the crosshatching and scumbling. It took a few hours but I really like how they look. Maybe I'll try the strawhat or shoes too, I just love the scumbling and you can't practise crosshatiching enough, don't you think??

Title: Re: Rita's Drawings
Post by: Lillian on September 21, 2012, 03:34:35 PM
Ahhhhhhh, your llamas are sooooooo cute, Rita!   :smitten:

I can't say as I blame you on the church project.  You can put it away and when you get the urge to measure, you can take it out and go to it.   :)

I really pushed myself, kicked myself around a few times and finally, it was done and I must say, after all I put into it, I'm quite proud of it.

I agree, I may not enlarge a picture that way again, but it is good to know that we can do it that way if we so wish.

Nolan knows how to challenge us, but I really appreciate that.

Thank you Lillian, for your very nice and quick comment.  :smitten: :flowers:

It may sound stupid, but even when not eager to do this drawing, I just couldn't put it away for long. My partner thought I was  :idiot2: doing so, he thought it was useles and no one would use it, but somehow I just wanted to finish it. Your church just looks so great, I just had to go on. Everytime I draw some lines, did some measurings and everytime I sat down and draw again for a hour, or more...sounds like a little hooked.  :D
As you said, it is always good to learn other ways of drawing something, and it was a challenge...and it still is thinking off all the bricks :2funny: a lot of measuring to go...again.

There is always a drawing waiting, to start, to go on with or the revised and for now I have to draw a new eye,...or two and a nose so in between I can do some painting. I did start yesterday with the final, hopefully, church and I like to start with the horse, now it is only the question which one first. :coffee:

I just hope there is some time left for feeding the cat, done O0 she's sleeping on my lap, breakfast, lunch, diner, shopping and some chore :2funny:

Hi Rita

    :clap:Great work on the church and the lamas.  The dark one looks like he is smirking  ;)

We've just got back from our long weekend. Got rained out on most of it but Saturday was lovely - we went off to visit an old mission station deep in the Cedarberg wildness.  Stunning drive on steep dirt roads through the mountains. There was an incredible old church in the valley - done with Cape Dutch style gables and a thatch roof. I'm just itching to draw it :heeha:.  Spent most of the weekend messing about with the advanced settings on my camera - think I managed to get a couple of nice shots but the ones on the preset landscape setting were probably better than my manual settings  :-\

Hi  Sharmila, thank you for your lovely comment.  :flowers: That's what I like of drawing, someone else  will see some little extra's or things look different than you had in your mind. I like this kind of happy surprices, a smirking llama ;D .

I'm glad you had have a nice weekend, even with rain. Sounds like you had have a real adventures weekend, driving on steep dirt roads through mountains, finding old chuches in the valley, making photo's of beautiful landscapes. Great, now you have mmiljions of ideas for new drawings, love to see the photo of that church. And ofcourse I'm very curious to all the other great photo's you have made.

Here it is cold, rainy and stormy weather, I'm always concerned that the big tree in the front garden, does not live trough the next storm, but till now we only find many branches in the garden after the storm.

Not much painting her, I have some heavy musclepain from trying to push our car out of the clay, after a great 60s festival.

But drawing wasn't such a problem and I still wanted to practise crosshatching again...and I just like it, it is keeping my mind of all kind of things like my stiff body. Lucky for me I got some help from 4 man, but  it took almost 10 minutes to get the car free.

:2funny: I had to start all over again with the chuch :tickedoff: I was almost finished to find out,  I FORGOT TO PUT IN ALL THE STONES :2funny: :2funny:
I didn't crosshatch but put in tonals, just like the first exercise of the church, so after drawing the church for the ...th time I needed something else and hopefully I do the right thing with my next try, and last  :fight: on the church.

Rita-I hate to admit it but I just gave up on that church.  I had laid out about 15 coordinates and knew that it would take me 5 more hours.  Honestly, I'm glad to know abt this method because I think I will use it to double check key points in a drawing but will NEVER use it to lay out the entire thing, especially when there are so many curves.  I admire your persistance.

Wow Rita your latest drawing knocked my socks off :heeha:  When I finally managed to see it, that is - first the icon was broken, then when I reloaded this page I got an error that the website had exceeded its resources. And here was, dying to know what everyone was raving about :2funny:.  Must have been a lot of traffic to this page  :D

Your work is absolutely incredible, especially if you have not been feeling well. I've been going through a bad patch as well lately.  You continue to inspire me to keep on going.   :flowers: I've been enjoying doing the squirrel - I just have to do his legs now and adjust the contrasts  :painting:

I've abandoned enlarging the church by coordinate method, because it was frustrating me and giving me neckache, and I don't have much time to spend on my drawing anyway. I don't see myself using this method unless its something very simple, or if I have a technical drawing table with the rulers and T-square so that you can measure off your points really quickly and easily. I did a bit of technical drawing when I was in high school and quite enjoyed it then, so maybe its just a question of having the right equipment for the task.

Nolan,   :nono:  unfortunate you really have to wait, I've still got a 'few' drawings left to do it is already hard  to choose from the once I have, what will be the next drawing. I have already drawn the outline from the horse well that is 2 outlinedrawings, one big horse and the other is small, the cutlery and the church and the last one needs now to get texture.

I am so happy that I finished the church, this was a real challenge. And looking at it I am glad I did. Filling in all the details was so much fun and doing it step by step was the best way.
To make it a little personal I put the frame around it, I think it just makes the drawing complete, like a real frame.

Wow, that's unreal Rita!! Whenever I see one of your pics, I think of the patience you have with them -- really working the details and adding your unique touch.
It reminds me to slow down and take my time because sometimes I tend to just want to learn a lesson, finish it and move on to the next. By seeing your work, it reminds me to slow down, enjoy, and really learn the technique well. It will be worth it. Thanks Rita for being such an inspiration!

Dianne, Mom said I'm not aloud to come outside,   :'( I have to cross hatch in bed, till my cold is over. :'( So, no crosshatching, no new pencils and new paints,  :tickedoff: cold.

Lynn, Yes the frame is drawn and it took a while to get it right. Especially the reflection of the light on the frame wasn't easy.

I never expected so much lovely comments on my horse drawing, it is just overwhelming  :smitten: :cloud9:
I didn't think that the drawing would look so great, i love animals but drawing, or painting is something else. I was a little unsure because i thought the head was not right. But looking at my drawing on the computer it seems alright.
All these lovely commenst are so encouraging and help me to progress every time a little more, Thank you all for that :smitten: :flowers:

Lynn, for the background i used the 2H pencil and after put down two layers of colour, i just rubbed my finger over it, to soften the lines.

Tony,  :2funny: No woody at the church, he is still hiding ibehind the left front bushes, after loosing his head trying to help me with colouring, but somehow it looks like he is still leaning against the wall  :2funny:

I liked the background on the photo, so i thought it would look also nice in the drawing. The white of the paper was not quite the nicest place for the horse to be, nothing to look at, or to smell. I think he likes it to have his home meadow to enjoy. Now this handsome guy needs a great  name.

The church was really a challenge and i am glad that it turned out as it did. This last week i was busy with a new drawing, again i practised crosshatching, and this is the result:

I really liked the photo included in the Let's Draw course, and it was an other real challenge :smitten: . I only have drawn once a metal and shiny piece before, the christmas spheres, and i think this ones does look good. I am really happy with the final look, now i have to try some glasswork.

:thankyou: Denise, for your lovely comment :smitten: :flowers:
Yeah, i like it too, and when busy i just keep seeing spots that are too light, so more hatching. It was difficult to stop :2funny: , before you know it looks like i coloured planes instead of making thousands of crosshatchings. And i have to watch my pencilpoints too, they really have to stay very sharp, when blunt you start to colour. So, now my pencils are really starting to become very small stumbs, almost too small to hold, draw and sharpen.  Have to look for those pencilholders :coffee:

Just saw your birdie :smitten: CUTE!!

two more beautiful drawings Rita
Just shows what you can do when you are not scared of the darks  O0

On the horse you can still darken the neck where it meets the head (in the corner) - remember the head casts a shadow on the neck, so that shadow actually makes the appear forward creating more depth / distance in the drawing O0

Thank you Val, Natalie, Denise, Tania and Maryna for all your lovely and encouraging comments :flowers:  :flowers:.
I always liked drawing with graphite, but since i did the Let's Draw course, still busy with it, and my skills are improved tremendously, i really love it. Even more than colourpencildrawings...and that i do love a lot.
All your great, wonderful, lovely and encouraging comments are just the push that i need to go further and put on the standard much higher. Photo's or drawings i thougt were way out of my reach, too difficult, not possible with my lack of skills, are now the challange i need. And on busy days, or when i have to much pain and stay in bed, i still can draw. It sooths and lessens the pain a lot and at the end i have a great drawing and feel much better, a.k great. O0 :smitten: It is really relaxing  :2funny:, frustrating  :tickedoff: every now and then, and a great way to spend time.
And i think i'm not the only one i see so many great drawings, so much of you that improve and still progressing with every new drawing, Lets'Draw is just the best drawing course and Paint Basket world best community

Here you go, Nolan. Darken and extended the shadow on the horses neck. You are right, it looks much better now. The first shadow was way to small. Thanks for the great lessons and helpful advice. :flowers:

 :flowers: Thank you, Denise, Natalie, Bhavna, Dianne, Tania, Faith, Sharmilla, Val and Lynn, for the wonderful and encouraging comments. This was a real challenge but one i loved to do.
Sharmilla, yeah, it needed a lot of observation and concentration to get every facet of the crystal tops   and i even count them :2funny: . Sometimes the difference in tone was very little and i only could see if it was  O0  after i finished and saw the whole drawing from a distance.
Val, i started with the square bottle because i thought that one was the easiest :nono: , well it wasn't, all the detail on the square bottle was hard :tickedoff: but i just love the final drawing.

Lynn, i really would love to paint this one :smitten: , especially the square bottle, the colours change with every movement of the head, or from what angle you look at it. I made once a 'few' photo's of this bottle, and every one has different colours, it is so beautiful.

Nolan i hope i did Wauzi right. I'm sorry to hear that you couln't bring Wauzi with you when you moved to New Zealand, i know how it feels to leave your beloved pet behind. I just loved the photo, he really has the cutes face i have ever seen.

Nolan, Denise, Dianne, njnjgirl and Lillian, Thank you so much for your wonderful, great compliments. I never thought that drawing Wauzi would be so welcome, it makes it so special and feels great. You look at a beautiful photo that just asks to be drawn, not really thinking that there could be a, sad, story behind this photo, so 'closeby'.
It made me extremely happy that i, without realising, fulfiled Nolan's wish to see his cute dog drawn. And now i read that i even was able to capture him perfectly, i'm just very gratefull that i improved my skills so much.
It made me think about my wish to paint better, i'm not great at it but i like it and i really want to improve and see some progression. But drawing i have always done and since i'm a member of PaintBasket i improved a lot and i see so much progression. Maybe i should concentrate more on drawing, especially graphitedrawings. Somehow it seems to by 'my thing', and that for someone who just loves colour.
I am very thankful and happy that my drawing made someone so happy, that is the greatest gift i ever recieved. Man, it makes me very emotional and i feel so...overwhelmed, never thougt a drawing could do that.

Denise and Mary Lou, thank you so much for your lovely and warm words, it is making me all warm and happy. The drawing isn't framed yet, it is up for a surprise. But i'm sure it won't take long before it is framed and hanging on a perfect spot. Everytime i see the drawing i'm happy that i took the challenge, this little puppy looks so sweet. I really felt so sorry and sad when i heard that Nolan had to leave his beloved Wauzi behind. I'm just so glad that i draw this cute dog, it was fun and the rewarding was more than i ever could have dreamed of.

Kelley, I think you are right. I never thought when i drew the first squirrels, that it would be the start of drawing a lot of animals. I just love doing so, and i have seen my skills improve very much in a very short time. I really like this animaldrawing, and just finished two cute kittens in: Pencil&Pastel Encourage Sessions, Two little 'big' friends. And i am allready looking for the next animal to draw.

Hi Val, i do agree with you, Nolan i am happy that Wauzi still lives at his wellknown place, that will have made it for both of you a little easier. Knowing that Wauzi is with someone he already is familiar with, at a place that he always knew, does feel good.

I just finished my gardendrawing...and im not really happy with it. My garden doesn't have nice views, or cute corners, only this pot wit a death cherrytree and some leafs. I put the little angle, from under a bush, closer so it looked a little more atractive.
It was, almost, freezing cold and started to rain, so after the linedrawing which took an hour, measured with my pencil, i took some photos for the details and went inside. But it took almost an hour before my fingers waren't painful and stiff anymore.

Rita--I like this drawing.  This is what you call combat drawing.  Nolan, see what you made this poor woman do  ;D ;D  Hope you hands feel better. Rita, I think you are not happy mainly because you have set such a high bar for yourself.  The only thing I see is a need for a few more darks on the angel.  Good for you for persisting in drawing.  I have been a drawing drop out lately.

:thankyou: :thankyou: :thankyou: Natalie, Saraharch, Vjah, Denise, Val andMary Lou for all the great, lovely and encouraging comments. The longer i look at my drawing, the more i like it. It was so totaly different than the cute dog and cats, no much crosshatching and flicks here. The little angle had a forgotten spot under the busches, after the birds eat everything i had put on the little bowl and it turned in to a little birdbath, and muskitoplace. But when i saw it, filled with the autumnleafs i just had to put it next to the flowerpot. And it looks really nice, and maybe i will place some old lantarns next to it. But my first little cute corner is a fact :yippee: , now i need to do some more.

Thank you Nolan, for your very nice and encouraging comment. Yes, i absolute love drawing, i always did. But since i joined the Let's Draw course my skills are so much improved and i'm no longer afraid of trying to draw something. That little naging voice, that i'm not able to draw, is gone. My selfconfidence has improved also, with every drawing and lesson from the course. So,  :thankyou:  Nolan for this great course that not only teaches how to draw, but also teaches not to be afraid to step out of your comfortzone and look at things as challenges. And challenges are there to defeat.

I'm almost done with the course and just finished my landscape. I had planned to draw an old shed with an old tree leaning at it, but due to too cold, freezing weather and rain, i used a photo from a park nearby. I hope i can paint this one of these days, or someday in the future. But for now i made this drawing. It took me a few days but i'm quit happy with it.

Thank you Tony, most of the time i use this paper for my colourpencils, i'm not so fond of it when it comes to graphite. But with the foliage of the trees it just seemd the right paper and it helped so much to get the feeling of leafs. It was only that i didn't have the smoother paper on hand, so i had to do with what was there right there and then.

..... :faint: ....... ....... :heeha:  WOW Nolan!!!!..... :cloud9:  I really don't know what to say.... :thankyou: :thankyou: :thankyou: .
I Never thought i would be able to draw like this, i know i always wished for and dreamed of, but i thought that that was something out of my reach, even i always loved drawing and my teachers at school saw something in my skills. My lack of selfconfidence was the biggest problem, but with your course there changed so much....

Your way of teaching us how to draw, no not just how to...but drawing great just look at all the beautiful drawings from all the classmates, is just awesome. You are taking time to explane everything, the lessons are very clear and easy to follow. You always be there with your honest, encouraging and very helpful comments, you push us way beyond our skills. You see more capacity in our skills than we do ourself, that is what all of us keep going and trying more and more.

And look  :heeha:  at how many of us did make huge progressions and produce some awesome drawings, like that gorgeous elephant of JennyLynn, and so many more. I think most of us thought at the beginning of the course, that we never would be able to draw that good, and still we all did, that's to you and your great drawingcourse. So,  :urwelcome: thank you so very much, you're absolutely the best teacher :smart: someone can get    :yippee: :flowers: :smitten:

Val, Dianne, Denise, Carol, Carol2 and Lillian, thank you so very, very much for all your wonderful, lovely and very encouraging comments. It really does mean a lot to me, and it feels just great being back in this loving  ,  8) , :crazy2:  family.  :smitten: :flowers: :cheering:

Sorry hb for this very late reply, illness kept me away from the computer, paints and papers. Thank you so very much for your wonderful reply, it is much appreciated, and will help me a lot picking up pencils and brushes again after being ill for the biggest part of this year due to two strokes.
Have a wonderful day,
Riya

Riya, I am just so pleased to see your creative soul coming to the fore again. I've missed you.  :1hug:

For anyone who has not seen Riya's early works from a few years ago I highly recommend you go and peruse through her gallery. I love to start at the oldest first and come forward. Her pencil work is amazing and so inspirational whether it is portraits, landscapes, or still life. Watercolour and acrylic work is beautiful.  O0 Treat yourself and go have a BOO!  ;D

Aniz,  :thankyou: so much for your kind words on my trees, I loved drawing them, trees are always challenging and I still have some awesome pictures that I one day will draw.

Well, time to pick up the pencils and paints again, first I just have to see what is up into the montly challenges, would be great to find something that is just perfect for me to do.
