Title: ART to start the new year
Post by: mea hamo pena on January 01, 2018, 07:46:57 PM
Happy New Year to you all!

I'm about to start my 2018 art journal with a quick sketch, then hope to do a small watercolor and a small oil before the day is done.  Art Marathon.  Anyone want to join me?

Sketch done.  Starting the watercolor now.  Have already put underpainting (toning) on the oil canvas.

Did an ART Marathon to start the new year. Sketch of Marcus Mariota, Crumpled paper watercolor of Mokoli`l, and oil still life.

Feel good about these as practice pieces.

Thanks, Val.   The signature on the still life is too big, but I was in a hurry to get it posted.

I feel good that I challenged myself to do this and did.

Thanks, Bhavna and Cath.

Actually, I multi-tasked when I did them - watched the Fiesta Bowl and Rose Bowl games.

Happy New Year Mea.
A good start to your artistic year. :painting:   I on the other hand have done no art in weeks, I hope to remedy that and maybe I will also challenge myself with an Art Marathon.

Thanks, Win.  Actually, my Art Marathon did not take all that much time.  All three pieces were small, largest was 5 x 7."

Hope you do it to get you back into painting again.

Well done Mea, makes me consider putting something up, though I am conscious of "hogging" the site.  :-\ I note that there are not that many pictures uploaded and those that are seem to be the same names?

Bill,

Please jump in and show your art to start the new year.  Those that are on the site are mine from my Marathon day.  I'd love to have others post theirs.

Any other PB-ers - please  post your new year art, too.

I have nothing yet to show for the new year but I put some recent sketches in the drawing section.

Wow, my marathon pales by comparison to the sketches you just posted in the Drawing Section.

Great work, Bill.

Happy new year to you Mea and to all PBs. What a fantastic idea to start an art marathon! I like your art pieces and you are an infectious motivator! Hope to join you soon. I am back in Berlin safely with tons of jet lag and work.
Looking forward to see more of your marathon pieces.

Gita - that was a three-piece marathon.  Over and done.

Thanks for liking it though.

Glad you are home safely.

Bill, please don't be shy about posting your art for it encourages others. Mea's idea was really a good motivating one. I am so eager to start painting/drawing again but since downsizing and moving into such a small place, my art paraphernalia has been strewn all over the place and I am only now starting to get some order with everything together in one place and can't wait to pick up the brushes and paint again.  I am so art starved.

Hi Mea, I guess I'm one of those that hog the space but I really love the critique's I get on my painting. It helps me sooo much.

I love the idea of an art marathon. Just a thought but why couldn't we organize something where we all get on skype or messenger or something like that and paint together for a period of time or whoever poops out last. I used to do this with a yahoo group I organized and we had a ball painting together. Lot's of fun and laughs!

Robynann,

What a great idea.  Because of the time difference between all of us, it might be a bit difficult, but it would be fun.  Since Hawaii seems to be the one time zone with the fewest people, I will defer to whatever time zone can bring in the most people who would want to participate (even if it is the middle of the night here).

We can start with a small group and see how it goes.  I have both Skype and Facebook messenger available to me. Not sure I know how to set it up for a group, though.

Hey, folks, anyone else interested?

Oh, I can write about it in the newsletter and try to create some interest.

I'll have plenty of coffee going for everyone!!!

I think the Newsletter would be a great place to start and a thread in the forum for it's own for questions and suggestions. I'll be glad to help Mea.

Robynann,

Tea for me please.  Never drank a cup of coffee in my life.

OK, I will get something in the next newsletter.  Do you think MOTIVATION might be a good category for our PB Face-to-Face Meet up?  (How's that for a working title?)

Thanks for getting this ball rolling!

I was thinking of something a lot more fun like for instance "Slumber Party at PB " be the last person painting or up!!! Years ago I would give a little prize to the last person up. We also played bingo during the night for a good laugh and other fun games I facilatated. I don't know, what do you think.

Robynann,

Hmm... you've got your thinking cap on!!  With our 24-hour time span, maybe Slumber Party isn't the right term.  But, as they say when it's time for a drink, "it's five o'clock somewhere."

Once we see who wants to participate, then we can figure out the best time to get the most involved.  Or we can do it for 24 hours in rolling time zones.
