Title: Tranquility
Post by: robynann on December 01, 2017, 09:41:40 AM
This was a class in impressionistic painting. I took it because I'm so rigid when I paint. I really like this style. It was a lot of fun once I loosened up. To me the picture looks a little blurry. I still am wrestling with this expensive new fangled camera. maybe I should just used my tablets. lol

Robynann,

The wispiness of the dress fabric amazes me.  It lends itself well to "Tranquility."

The young lady is enchanting; gorgeous hair. But, she seems overpowered by the huge flower in front of her.  The flower seems just too large for the rest of the painting.

Otherwise, it is so lovely.

Thanks Mea.. Since this was just a class I went with what the teacher head for a composition. They are not always right. lol  I was debating about putting it in at all. What do you think? take it out totally?

This lovely. Her hair is beautiful!  I would also like to learn this style. Did you find it more relaxing and enjoyable to loosen up?

Maybe just half the size, or maybe just one if you could make it look like it were in her hand, Like she were looking at it.

Or not at all.

Thanks Emmalee and Patricia . Once I finally loosened up I found it very relaxing and fun. Mea I'll see if I can reduce the size..or do something.

Thanks Maria, I'm still futz with it and will probably make it smaller. Maybe like Mea said have it coming out of her hand.

I'm never sure what the definition of impressionism is... I'm not even sure I like it (present painting excepted of course!) Basically it seems to be anything that is blurry. I can tolerate a undefined background (after all our eyes can only focus on one thing at a time) but if you make the main subject blurry, I just feel that the painting hasn't been finished properly. However RobynAnn, your main subject is defined just enough for my exacting standards. My only quibble is that I would like to see some grass behind that swinging foot. The grass line seems to end too abruptly. I know the teacher wasn't concentrating on composition, but it's your painting. Alter it if you want to.

I'm still struggling with it. LOL

I suspect that the problem with impressionism is knowing when to stop. It must need a lot of putting the painting to one side for a day or two and then reviewing it.

I am going to be a little contrary here.  I love the big flower in her hair.   :smitten:

I like the big flower in her hair too, but I think it is the large plant behind (in front of her face) that the others don't like so much.
