You are all invited to the opening of course, and the big draw card is that it will be displaying some of MY paintings!  :2funny:

It's certainly a big deal for me. I'm not expecting to sell many paintings. As I understand it it's not a high sales venue, but just the experience of getting ready for it has been/is invaluable, and I'll get to meet a whole new group of local artists and see their work. I'll post pics if I can. My only camera is my phone which has it's limitations on anything more distant than 3 metres. Thanks for the good wishes.

Linley,

This is all so exciting.  I know it's a lot of work, but it gets easier once you've done it a few times.  Best part is meeting other artists.  I have made so many new friends at these shows.

Enjoy it.

Thankyou... tomorrow is delivery day, with the big opening in the evening. It's taken blood (many sliced fingers from mat cutting and mounting)  (hot hot weather Oliver sudden) and  :'(   :crazy2: (of frustration... I'm not very good at Matt cutting!)but apart from varnish drying on the last frame, it's boxed and ready for delivery. I'm excited and nervous... not because I fear my paintings won't be good enough ( its an exhibition of Recreational artists, so they allow imperfect work) But because they have strict standards for presentation, and since I've done all the mats myself, and I'm using 2nd hand frames, I fear they may sniff and refuse them entry.  :thankyou: all for the encouragements.  They've really been a boost to my spirits. Promise to post photos if I can get them . In the meantime I need an emojis for fingers crossed. Now I'm looking forward to starting actually painting again. Which Class shall I start with... they are all so interesting!

I'm excited for you, Linley.  If you get a chance to help with spotting and hanging, do it if you can.  I learn so much when I get a chance to look closely at each painting to pick the best place for it in the show.

Thanks, Mea. I'm a newbie to the group, so I don't know if they'd trust me to do anything complicated, but I'll grab the chance if I can. Now I have to get some sleep so that I'm reasonably compis mentas (forgive the spelling please) and can actually function enough to help if asked. Actually too excited to sleep.  It's like Christmas... :D

The exhibition opened last night. I expected support from you lot (and got it) butI was surprised and gratified by the number of local well-wishers I had, despite the number down and out at the moment with the latest nasty virus. Two managed to attend, and one brought me flowers! I had thought it might be a bit boring, but I had a wonderful time. Even sold a card (bought by a friend who wanted a reminder of the occasion). Only photos so far are of me with flowers beside two of my paintings. I take others when I do gallery duty next Friday.

Oh, Linley, you look so radiant and lovely and your paintings look great.  How sweet of your friend to bring you flowers. If I were there, I would have brought you a lei.

So happy you got to experience an artists reception as an artist.  It's a time to dress up, feel special, and meet other artists and folks who admire art.

Good for you.

Thankyou Mea, Cath and Patricia. I'm still basking in the glow  :yippee:, although I have to admit it has taken me 3 days to recover ( no, not from a hangover! I can hear you in the background, Val! You are so cheeky!). Getting ready in such a short time was very stressful. My advice to to other would-be exhibitors - frame your paintings as you go along, not all at once! :2funny:

Old hat sounds really nice Val... A steep learning curve over a short time scale is quite stressful! I would advise other would be exhibitionists ( :2funny:) to start off with only a small number of paintings, not 32!

I can't do a mass upload (sorry) because I use Chrome as my search engine and it doesn't support Java. Really annoying!

Still no contact with yupo. Is it like a plastic?

Nice work, Linley.  Love the vibrant colors.

I have never tried a "mass upload" because I have never had enough mass to upload.

I use OPERA as a browser exclusively for Paintbasket and all my art-related stuff.  Fabulous browser - free and I have never seen advertising on it.

Oh Linley - mazel tov on being in this show!!! So proud of you - and the photos of you and your art are just precious!!! It takes a lot of courage for artists to put their paintings for view in the public eye - it can be so scary for me still to do that even after a lot of shows. Really glad you've shared this with us. And here's to more shows for you in 2018!

Yupo behaves like plastic in some respects, but isn't totally slick. It is a special type of plastic developed for the illustration industry. Apparently the printing process couldn't pickup the intensity of colours properly on ordinary paper. Anyway, it's tricky because the surface does not absorb the water, so if you use too much it runs all over the place and makes muddy puddles as the colours combine. :o On the other hand it's really easy to mop up or wipe off mistakes. :) It just wipes clean. In theory, you can wipe it clean and reuse the same piece of yupo for a new painting several times over. In practice I find some staining colours like Alizarin Crimson and the Pthalos do leave faint shadows. It's available in little pads through most art shops, although probably not in Belize or Guatemala.People who paint with alcohol inks love it.

PS, Val. I have found it hard to remove indentations left by too heavily impressed pencil. Watercolour pencil, like Nolan advocates, smeared everywhere. So far a pencil with a very light touch and drawing directly on the Yuporather than transferring the image,  in not too much detail, seems to be the best option. Painting without first  drawing would be better, if you are confident enough.

:thankyou: Patricia. I still have to post pictures of the matted and framed paintings, but it's a lot of work converting them all to suitable format, so I've been Only posting in dribs and drabs. I wouldn't bother to post everything but there are pieces in there I promised I would show when they were matted. I feel guilty about hogging the whole gallery when I put up multiple pictures, so I try to time it for when I think other people will be too busy to post their work... Like the lead-up to Christmas and New Year.
