Title: Unconditional Love
Post by: robynann on October 05, 2017, 11:22:11 AM
I had some problems with this one as my cat fell into my palette three times and three times I mixed the flesh tones over again. I don't like her nose but that is the way her reference photo was. At the end I wanted to use my Artists License and paint that light out and I didn't know what dark I used on the bottom of the nose I had mixed it so much and really didn't want to do it over again since it was an odd angle. So there it sits an eye sore to me. I have hardly painted wild animals before so the Fox was a challenge.  I would love to hear comments and critiques.

This is so nice Robynann. You have created really good textures in your fox's fur.

  Just tone down the spot at the nose as best as you can and then leave it at that. Whatever you do will still look very much better than the very obvious white spot. O0   Also tone down the end of the brow shadow on the right side eye. It may be that in the reference photo, but it is too far out for a painting. Often we need to change what we see in the photo.

Robynann what a beautiful painting, just those two tweaks that Dennis suggested and your painting will be perfect.

Maybe your cat doesn't approve of foxes? Letting her fall on your palette is certainly a novel way of painting your cat. Maybe you can teach Neil a thing or two? Love the adoring,  smoochy look on the fox.
