Title: Waterlily Dreamer
Post by: linley.plester on October 04, 2017, 03:53:16 AM
I've caught a dose of Robyn Anne! The photo doesn't do this one credit. In fact I'm so pleased with it, I've already sent it to the framer. I'm giving it to friends for a house-warming gift. I had planned to do them a family portrait, but I over-estimated my abilities and that turned into Einstein and stalled. So this is the substitute. Fortunately my friend loves purple and this style of art. This one started as a practice piece for Einstein.I'll finish him one day!

Will do, Sharon. She's not really into Einstein Val, but I have great plans for him....one day. I have to keep on reminding myself... never say die! :thankyou: to both of you.

I'll photograph it framed before I give it to my friend. I hope I've made the right decisions for the matt and frame colours.

Don't get the Eisntein part nor the never die... but I like the style of your paintings.  Different and very refreshings, somewhat challenges the senses.

She will love it

Sorry Annie.... it's a long story.... I started out trying to paint a portrait of two friends in acrylic, but had major fights with my local art teacher about skin colour and the need for an actual likeness (he doesn't paint in acrylics, and doesn't understand the way the colour darkens as it dries, and doesn't seem to think a likeness is all that necessary!) Anyway, I started working on my own but decided to do a practice portrait of Einstein first. I've managed to get a likeness, but the skin colour has been driving me crazy, I've started the painting over about 20 times! Val has been following my struggles and keeping up my spirits. Anyway, the portrait of the friends seems to be a long way off in the future, so I offered them this painting instead, and they seem to be quite happy with it it as a substitute. You may have noticed that this one is in watercolour, and the skin colour isn't all that realistic either. So now I have to return to the Einstein painting. I refuse to give up on it, which is why I said: Never say die!

Val.... re Einstein, I thought you might like this little tale.... When I was still taking Einstein to the local art class, one of my dear sweet 85 year old friends, looked at the reference photo and said:"That's the ugliest man I have ever seen! Is he a musician?" She thinks the waterlily dreamer is prettier than Einstein too. :2funny:
