Title: Landscape in Four Brands of Watercolor Paint
Post by: mea hamo pena on August 04, 2017, 07:47:19 PM
Not sure if I should post this here or in Watercolor Encourager Section.

Over a four day period, I did relatively the same landscape, but used a different brand of watercolor paint each day.

They are numbered by the days I did them.  On the 4th day, I added the ink line with the wash. That one  may look the best because I was getting better at it each time, or the line and wash just makes the elements of the painting stand out better.  Not sure which.  I really enjoyed doing this.  Now I have a good idea of how my different brands compare.

The composition was not too good as the two trees on the left seem to overpower the rest of the scene.  I like my stand of trees on the right in the #3 painting best.  The one in #4 would have looked better if I had not made the ink lines so predominant.

2. DaVinci Travel Tin - 12 colors
3. QOR - loose tubes
4. Koi (Sakura) Watercolor Field Sketch Box

Best part is that each has a pretty decent section that I can cut out to use on a small card.

Your thoughts, please.

Mysti

I like being able to see things side-by-side to compare.

They each have their own little uniqueness Mea, interesting to see the different colours from the different makes.
I cant really pick any particular one as better. so no help from me  :P

Thanks, Win.  I think I will do it again now that I have Daniel Smith paints.

Will post the results.

Pardon me for posting the same photo twice, but I wanted to have all five versions of the same painting in the same message.  This fifth on was done in Daniel Smith paint - used the new veriter blue. Love it!  This last one was done on hemp paper.

Original four on Canson 140lb. watercolor paper.
