Title: Rain forest- commission finished
Post by: Gita on June 04, 2017, 12:23:34 PM
My friends little girl will be eight. This is a colourful present for her birthday. The rain forest ( I am still influenced by my vacation in the tropical Seychelles, I think) is a nice subject. I tried using the technique Lynn mentioned with the plastic foil. Thanks Lynn. Made a colourful background and added the trees and leaves to it after that.
Done with acrylics on paper.
Happy to hear your comments- anything to add or improve?

This is lovely, Gita.  Love the colors.

I would add another bird (or maybe a monkey peeking out behind a leaf)at a lower level, maybe where there is that soft green space in the lower left.  Just a thought - otherwise, super pretty.

its lovely Gita but I agree with Mea about adding an extra bird or something, your three birds are all in a row.  But it sure is a lovely gift.

This is really cool.  I love the varying colors of the trees and the whimsical look of the piece!!! I think you pulled this technique off.  I have never tried it with acrylic.

Thankyou Mea, Win, Val, Mary-Lou, Lynn and Dennis! I might have been influenced by artists in Seychelles who painted rainforests in a very colourful and fancy manner. I still have to add other animals- have to borrow the painting back from the little girl for this. She's quite happy at present but it would fascinate her further.

I have an order to paint this in oils,  250 cm x 200 cm. This is a person who used to follow my paintings but was less fascinated by the realistic interpretations.  He is fond of naive painting. He wants the rain forest in oil to get the colours more vibrant. This is such a big format.  I am bit exited  :cheering: about this but also rather nervous 😬since I haven't painted in oils other than the parrot till now.

I think I shall go for this, have to buy the oils and canvas.

I wish I were much more motivated to do this than I am now. 🙄

:flowers: :flowers: :flowers: What a wonderful gift!  So many possibilities for other creatures big and small, like crawling up the trees or along the ground, hidden partially behind leaves and peeking out, tree snails, butterflies. . . What fun!  Have you seen any of Henri Rousseau's paintings?  He's good at putting animals into imaginary scenes. ~Liz

Thank you for the motivation Mea, Val, Emma lee, Win.
Liz, yes in a big Format there will be more space for other lovely creatures. I like Henry Rousseau's paintings too. Will have to get some more inspiration and get started. 🙂

At last I finished my commission painting. Painted on a canvas ( 120 cm x 100 cm) with a golden base... the photo is taken at night with artificial light. In real it looks great with bright colours and the gold shines through.  I am quite happy With the result. I decided to put just birds. I shall make a photo during daylight and update this.
Love to hear your comments.

i like the look of this Gita. It did take me a while to find the birds, any chance you could increase their value/brighten them up to stand out?

Thanks Mea.
Haha Val, like in the real rainforest you have to look out for birds! I kept them small since the rain forest is supposed to overpower the birds unlike my first painting. I shall make a daylight pic and also a close up of the birds. They are fantastic small fairytale birds based on the look of real birds in Seychelles.
The painting looks simple but it took me hours and hours for the composition, the background effects, etc.

Val, this is a better photo. Adding also the colourful birds as single photos. This could give a better impression of the colour brilliancy. The painting will also be hanging in the studio gallery on the "open day of all Art studios" ( this week end).

Oh, Gita, these closeups show the real beauty of this piece.  The vibrant colors are gorgeous and the little birds are so well done.

I love the style.

   O0  Well done Gita. The long hours have really paid off.
I agree the first time painting on a large canvas can appear daunting,to begin with,  but also exciting .
 Love the colours.

Gita i love the beautiful colours in this painting.
I didn't see the large painting until now, i saw your photos of the individual birds and thought you made a series of wonderful colourful paintings. I believe you could make individual paintings of each bird.  They would make beautiful cards.
