Title: Travel sketches
Post by: Gita on May 08, 2017, 02:21:28 AM
On my way to vacation. Had made a fast sketch and wasn't too happy with the result. So sorry to remove it. Will post again.  :smiley6600:

I have a number I'm not particularly happy with this trip, but they are just sketches done quickly. I figure as long as I know what they are about, they will be just fine for a base for painting later on when I get back. You'll be seeing a few of these sketches before long....as soon as I find that blasted cord. Always leave something behind!

So Exciting!!!!  :yippee:

No art shops yet... kind of like being on a scavenger hunt!  :2funny:

A sketch is just a sketch and not supposed to be a final work of art ;)

I was directing this more to Gita - having removed the sketch.
Take a good look at Cyril's pen and ink sketches and see what I mean. Some very rough but very beautiful, and he is not afraid of posting them. This is what gives inspiration to those who are just starting their life as an artist.
In other words, making mistakes and rough work is all part of the game.

Thanks for the suggestion Dennis. Have done other sketches. The first one which I removed was of a famous mosque and one tower was too slanted. Did not want to offend anybody. Have to wait to get a good internet connection to post. At present on a nature vacation.  But have lots of inspirational scenes around me. Can't wait to post.

 You've just reminded me of one other thing I must look for! A sketchbook suitable of w/c. The ones I have turn into a mess....not meant for water. Thanks Gita.

I must remember to bring out my water soluble graphite pencils as well, would certainly speed up the sketching process. I'm going to have to start carrying you in my backpack to remind me what to bring!  :2funny:

Love your w/c sketch of the flowers. I have collected quite a few floral photographs this trip. I'll be sure to put some up for you.  O0

Patricia, thank you! Are you well again? You must be since I saw your beautiful drawing of the butterfly!👏🏻
Val, that's funny....😂. I cannot think of travelling without all my painting stuff anymore. Saves me time in searching for art shops. Do post your sketches. 😎

Nice work, Gita.

Your work really inspired me to try line and wash.  So glad I did.

Thanks.

Thanks Mea, Teresa.
Mea, I am going to use aquarell Black for line wash since the colour can be lifted off, something which is not possible with China ink.  :D

While waiting for the ferry drew this scene of a fishermen carrying fish from their boat to the roadside table where they sold the fish. Later on did the line wash. BTW, I forgot to mention, I am in Seychelles.

Any comments are welcome!  :D

These creatures are really impressive... Many people have this as a house pet. The pigeons are a lot smaller than the european ones.

Gita

These are fine line and wash.

Love the turtle's camouflage!

I want to try some line and wash wood like you did here.  Like that.

Thank you  Mea, Win, Liz, Val! 😎
Happy to have inspired you... Liz!😄
Win, all the subjects I choose are so typical for the place I am in, since this is a travel sketch book I want the subjects to give an impression of this beautiful island. 🐢🐬🦀🐠🐚🦇.

Excellent Gita.

I'm picking up a lot of ideas on how to (try) and stop myself from wanting to fill in all of the shadings.  :D   I spend more time figuring out what not to do than actually doing I think!  ;D

I am starting to love this island, Mea.🌍 Want to come back here again. We are living on top of a hill with a great view over the Indian Ocean. 🌊 Sometimes, at sunset the light reflected from the trees of the hill is so impressive! 🌄

The dried and old leaves of the palm tree are then blue! 🌴🌴🌾 You can't even catch this beauty of colours in a photo!

I am so overwhelmed with all the colours of nature here. 😮
Met some local artists, too. Some have such wonderful studios!  :envy:
Val, saw your sketches. I just have a wifi data card which is very slow. Sorry for not answering in that thread.  The parrot is really good! Looking forward to more sketches!  :painting:

Thank you Gita, the next couple are not as good as the parrot's beak... that's what I'll be known for at my demise...she couldn't draw a bird  ::) but wow! What a beak!!!  :2funny:

Another small sketch- there are 3 types of lizards: big brown ones, smaller flesh coloured ones and small green ones. I heard that the big brown ones have the green and flesh coloured ones as a part of their meal. 😮 Feel so sorry for this poor green fellow who came closer to us everyday in the morning at breakfast time. The green colour shines so beautifully under the sunlight.

Gita,

That is so good. even the table leg looks great.

We have a green lizard that visits my kitchen every so often.  What a beautiful color - almost neon.

Lovely Gita, we have so many different lizards of varying sizes here. I find them all such fascinating creatures. I have a few I want to try with pastel.

Wonderful textures in this, nice contrasts.

Gita, how long did it take to sketch this guy?  Did you take a photo first or did he pose for you the whole time?  :)

Thank you Mea. It's a piller and not a wooden table ( see photo). That's right, "Neon" suits so well to describe the green.
Val, looking forward to see your pastel lizard.

Liz, all the sketches I made here took me about 30 to 45 min. If I have an idea of sketching something I make a photo of the scene and start sketching. Actually it was difficult to get a close up of this shy guy..🦎😃. Looking forward to see your sketches, too!

The lizard may be a way off....still feeling my way around these pastels. But, I have been known to jump the gun before!  ::)    :2funny:
