Title: Cast Shadows, Light Source & 3D/Realism Development
Post by: Tony (ASM) on December 02, 2011, 06:19:33 AM
I spotted this video on Youtube of a chap painting a autumnal wooded scene. It's a great example of light and shadow direction and, how the depth (3D) comes to life as he paints the shadow directions from the light source.
See what 'ya think and feel free to leave a comment.
(I've posted it under the forum 'Hints & Tips' because it seemed fitting):

Very interesting watch using the painting knife technique. Took a ton of paint though for that size.

I have seen this before.  I think it is pretty cool! Using a knife to paint a complete painting would be interesting and fun!

Thanks, Tony!  I would like to paint in that style, but with a smaller canvas!  :thankyou: :painting:

Question for Nolan:  Can I paint water soluble oils over acrylic in some places or over the whole painting?  I want to get more texture in the picture.  Thanks!

Thanks Tony, this was fascinating! makes me want to try painting with a knife. The light is magnificent. Also loved the way he acheived the tree bark.

I've done it.  It's actually fun painting with a palette knife.

It's got to be expensive using all that paint.  :heeha:
